Seen comflicting data on bullet diameter for the 45 Colt rifle cartridge. For a modern rifle load. .452 or .454? these will be JHPs. I'm pretty certain they will be .452, but I'm not reloading them and don't want to be responsible for giving bad info.

Any modern 45colt will take the 452. I shoot .451 jacketed out of my blackhawk when the moodstrikes me, still very accurate.

Agree with above post. My Ruger Vaquero's work well with 230 grain lead bullets I got for my 45 ACP ammo. The sights are not regulated for that weight but otherwise they are accurate enough. If there is any doubt just slug the barrel.

Wow, I've never even noticed that jacketed 45 Colt bullets come in .451" and .452" until just now. The scary part is, that I've been reloading that cartridge for an awful long time. I've always considered myself an attention to detail type of reloader, until now that is.

I concur with slugging the barrel, both for accuracy and pressures. And unlike me, I would also make sure the data you use reflects the specific bullet diameter you intend to use.

Most if not all JACKETED .45 Colt bullets are .452".
Be sure to get real Colt bullets with crimp cannelures for a tube magazine.
You might not be able to get enough bullet pull with slick ACP bullets against a tube magazine spring and recoil.

I bought this rifle new in 2004 at BIG5, so it is kind of modern. The action was designed in 1894.

I have been shooting 24 gr H110 with .451" 250 gr XTP bullets 1.6" OAL with heavy roll crimp. Quickload thinks that is 1,507 fps 20,050 psi with the 16.25" barrel.
It chronographs at 1,536 fps and does 3 moa.
The recoil nearly shakes my filling out. I now shoot it with a large grind to fit Limbsaver recoil pad, that I do not grind, just leave it full area.

I shoot cast .452, some measure out to .451. But a 1000th, isn't going to make a lot of dfifference.
