Anyone have a Sierra manual that list the .224 40gr Varminter in 223 Remington?

I need to know the max velocity that Sierra lists for the .224 40 gr Varminter bullet in 223 Remington. The manual I have is from the 80s and doesn't list that particular bullet.

Thanks.

Thanks, renomedia. Could I ask one more question? What was the twist rate of the bolt action's barrel?

Thanks.

The test rifle is a Remington 600, 24" barrel, 1 x 14" twist. Hope that helps!

Thanks again.

I bought these bullets and want to make sure my 1:9 twist barrel won't turn them into a puff of smoke when they leave the muzzle. :)

As a follow up, I called Sierra this morning and spoke with a tech about the 40 gr Varminter HPs and was told that there was no velocity restriction for this bullet, and that I could shoot it as fast as I want out of my 1:9 barreled Mosseberg MVP.

This is reassuring since a friend sent me a link to a page (http://www.shootersforum.com/ballistics-internal-external/78073-f-y-i-varmint-bullet-rpm-limits.html) that listed the max RPM for the Sierra Varminter bullets as 216,000. Which, with a 1:9 twist barrel, is only 2700 fps.

I'll still take the Sierra tech's reassurance with a grain of salt and load up the ladder to Sierra's published max and see at what point (if any) the bullets flash out of the muzzle.

Thanks again.

I've shot them through a .22-250 at 4,100fps with 40.0gr Varget. Accurate (0.5" 5-shot groups).
Do let the barrel cool between groups at least 5min. A former co-worker burned out the barrel of his Savage M112 Varminter in a single afternoon with this load and 40gr Nosler B.T.'s. He started with a 3/4" rifle. ended up with a 4-3/4" rifle, even after cleaning several times with copper remover. Savage replaced the barrel as he only had less than 1,000rds through it but said "never again"....

I ususally keep several hundred on hand as it's my favorite .22Hornet bullet. I've shot over two dozen deer with them through my Ruger M77/22 varminter over 12.5gr of Hod.LilGun. Haven't recovered a single bullet... It's a tough and accurate little booger.
