sp101..who has them and do you like it

I'm seriously considering an SP101....I like Rugers,it is the most natural pointing gun ,for me, I've ever picked up,and I like it for CCW.also 38+ps are easily digested in a 357.
One question is the sights....I had a S/W bodyguard w/ the whole snubbie sight thing and I couldn't hit anything w/ it.I finally sold it.How accurate is the SP w/ the fixed sights?
And have you guys expeirenced any other problems w/ it??
Thanks:)

I really don't think you are gonna see anyone talk bad about the SP-101. It is one great little revovler. Summer time I carry it in a fannypack and if I am wearing jeans or something it totes along jus fine a Don Hume IWB holster.

Mine's a keeper.Love the way it fits my hand and accurate to boot.
Does Jack Weigand still do SP's? It's my understanding that he doesn't anymore. There used to be a notice on his website but I didn't see it last time I was there.
When I first bought the SP it was my plan to send it to him. Did some mods myself; Wolff springs, Trijicon sight, Eagle grips. Bead blasted it then polished the cylinder flutes, hammer & trigger.
Any of you SP owners interested in a set of Uncle Mikes boot grips?

I had one, a .38 with the app. three-inch bbl. I sold it because the longer trigger stroke didn't suit me as well as the S&W's I was used to, and I didn't like the loose fit of the extractor rod. Ruger really goofed in designing so much slop into that, and it applies also to the GP-100. I'm sure this sloppily fitted extractor rod is one reason why Ruger fans still sometimes seek out the more conventionally designed Security-Six guns.
My present three--inch .38 is a Smith M60-4. It's designed for Plus P pressures, and is overall, a much nicer gun than Rugers.
However, if one is going to shoot a LOT of Plus P or .357 ammo (these guns are offered in .357), the Ruger will hold up better.
Oh: grip fit may be a problem if you replace factory grips on these Rugers. I found it MUCH harder to find grips to fit a GP-100 frame than I've ever found in putting new grips on Smith or Colt guns.

I went around with one strapped to my ankle in an Uncle Mike's rig for years. Didn't take too much getting used to. It shoots a bit low for me with 125 and 158 magnums but even my 2.25" bbl is easier to hit with out to 25 yards than most other snubs. It's painless with magnum loads

I have a 2-1/4" SP-101 that is a great gun. I have not modified it except to replace the factory grips with Hogue monogrips. Oh, I also smoothed the sharp edges on the trigger. This gun is very accurate as long as I maintain focus on the front sight.

Great little gun. The only complaint I have is the front sight is a little tall so it shoots low. People recommend to file it down but I haven't yet. I'll let a 'smith do that.

Mine is a 3" .357 nice and solid. shoots well. I practice with it from 3-7yards and it is quite accurate. you can't go wrong with a SP101.

I love my SP-101. Mine is a .357 and I really like shooting it which is certainly not the way I've felt about previous snubbies I've owned. I had a S&W 442 in .38spl before and I sure didn't like shooting it. The Ruger grip and extra weight makes all the difference in the world. Since the extra weight isn't an issue for me, I can't see myself ever needing any other snubbs. Go for it.

My father in law has one, given him by his other son in law, a retired state trooper. We've gifted him with range trips and some instruction, and will probably buy him a set of Wolfe springs, as the trigger pull is hefty enough that he can only shoot single action right now; l we also used some day-glo sight paint, and are looking at the Trijicon sights, and maybe some action work.
The trigger pull is one of these new-fangeled lawyer-proof things. I suppose in a self-defense situaiton you wouldn't notice, but I feel that ANYTHING that makes the gun unpleasant to practice with, makes it impractical for self-defense.
Anyway, short answer: Try one, and definately do consider for an SD pistol.

The SP101 is no more and no less accurate than a S&W snubbie with the same size barrel. If you get a snubbie with a short barrel, small front sight, and the rear sight is just a gutter in the top strap, you'll find they're hard to shoot accurately. It will take a lot of work on your part to get there. If you found it hard to shoot a S&W snubbie accurately, don't expect that you'll find it dramatically easier to shoot a 2" SP101 accurately.

I have one and yes, I like it! It is my only snub revolver. I have Hogue grips on it ...it is all "stock" otherwise. Small ,powerful, accurate, fun...what more could someone want?

Ditto the majority opinion above. I have had and shot all kinds of snubbies, S&W, Ruger, Taurus, and the SP101 is, for me, by far my favorite and the only one I have currently. The factory grips are pretty good but a set of Uncle Mike's/Butler Creek boot grips do wonders. The sights are the best of the little snubbies, IMO, and the gun is strong and accurate. I like both the 2.25 and 3.16 inch barrelled and the hammered and dao "bobbed" versions. The steel S&W 640-1 is it's only competitor in my book but it still comes in second.

I got mine from Jack Weigand. Perfect snubby, except for the weight. I find it to be too heavy for daily carry in front trouser pocket.

Over the last few shooting sessions, I've been renting a sp101 and it's been a fine performer (especially as a rental gun!) Well made, tough, easy to shoot.

I bought a snub SP101 .357 spurless for my wife to shoot, but I like it so much I have been using it for CCW. She shoots .38 specials in it, I shoot the .357's.
Fits great in the front pocket of most pants with an Uncle Mike's pocket holster.
Sometimes a .45 1911 is not practical for CCW.

Out of the 3 i've owned only one was worth keeping and that was a 3" 38spl
The 357's both shot too low,4-5" at 15' even with 158gr load's but all 3 were accurate out to 15-20 yards.

It's a BLAST to shoot with mag rounds. You gotta try it to believe it.

I like mine. It's a DAO bobbed hammer gun. Kinda painful to shoot with magnums but still a great gun.
I installed a Wolf spring kit in mine to lighten the trigger pull and it has worked great.
I can keep em' on a 14" steel plate at 60 yards with it.(with 38.'s)
No regrets here.

My new Sp101 should be here tomarrow!!I got the short barrel,in 357.......I'm psyched.I paid $354...how'd I do?
The place I bought it has an awesome gunsmith too,so I may get some work done on it eventually...I have a feeling this may be the gun I actually hang on to for more than 3 months.I've wanted one from day one.
I'll let everyone know how it shoots...thanks again...TonyB:D

Mine's a 2", and I love mine. It's a bit hot with 357's, but since I changed it to Hogue grips, it's a sweet shooter. I don't like the DA on it, too hard, but the SA feel's like it's 1lb!! Don't sneeze! It was my homeD gun for about 2 years. My ex-gf use to group about 1 1/2" with it shooting 38Spl SWC. It's very accurate. The front sight is a bit hard to see, but nothing a stroke with whiteout didn't cure... Mine is accurate, and built ruger tough..
I don't know about slop, mine is rock solid, no slop anywhere, and the machining is so good that I didn't notice that there were two parts to the gun until I took it apart the first time...
Next time, I'm going to change the springs, and probably smooth out that trigger a bit more.

I have a 3" SP101 in .38+p . Stock. Bought it in 1995. My nightstand gun loaded with Federal PD. I am very fond of this gun. It was my first handgun, and you always remember your first. And it will be the last to leave my hands. It is accurate enough for it's intended purpose. It is strong and the long trigger pull makes it safe. The rubber grips give good purchase.
I paid only $239 for it - a steal, as the dealer wanted to get rid of her, because .357 models were crowding out .38s. Personally, in a small frame revolver, .38 is plenty, and with modern ammo, it will do the job.
Here she is:

I've got a 3" 357 mag and I love it. Unfortunately, it's been sent back to Ruger for adjustment. They do have occasional QC problems. I await it's return. It is a pretty remarkable gun.

I'll parrot pretty much what everyone else is saying. I have one in .357 and I like it very much. It's my summer-fannypack carry pistol. I have yet to have a problem with it.
