Question on changing out charging handle on a XG3S

I'm looking to replace the charging handle on my XG3S, and from instructions I've found I should be knocking the pin up to remove it. Looking at both sides of the pin, it sure looks like the underside of the pin is larger than the top. Before I go pounding on it (and perhaps make things worse), am I correct in that you punch from the bottom and take the pin out of the top hole?

OLD BFALC GUNSMITH RULE (Before FAL clones's):
When all else fails?
Beat it out from the small end to big end.

Whichever end that is.

It may be the pin was expanded on the end when they were beating it in when they put it in.

SO, beat it out the other direction.

As long as it's not a spreader pin (you can tell by a rounded or cone-shaped indentation in the end of it), what rcmodel said should work. If it's a spreader pin, you'll need to take a drill bit that's the same size of the pin and relieve the shoulders until you can punch it through.

Gads. My anxiety level certainly is increasing here as thoughts of mucking up something enters my head. :uhoh:

the pin only goes one way, and if i remember right you pound it from the hole under the hand guard so it pops out the top hole, and you gotta hold it in just the right spot, or at lest on mine you do.
Also the the pin is grooved so it dosent just pop out. heres some instructions hope you can see the pics

Yeah, the alignment between the top and bottom holes is horrendous, making removal of the pin all the more difficult.

So you're saying the bottom of the pin is supposed to be mushroomed a little?

One side of the pin is actually a different diameter, the top not the bottom.
If you look about half way down the HK pro thread there is a good pic of the pin about to be Reinstalled, it shows the larger top of the pin pretty good.

It was a real pain changing mine, you had to keep the handle in just the right spot so the pin is lined up with the top hole, and keeping it lined up when Whackin it as hard as you dare with out the punch bouncing, it was not that fun.
Sorry if that sounds discouraging, a padded vise or gunsmiths block might make it so smother.
