Big 'ol Balls !

April 2, 2013, 12:18 AM
These are my largest roundballs yet- well, the mould at least !

Got this brand new mould on a trade today, and I can't wait to get some of these in a 12 gauge !

At 286 grains of pure lead, two of these would be just under 1 and 1/4 oz- friggin perfect !

1 of these plus 6 #1 buck would be just over 1 and 1/8 oz- a higher velocity version of the centurion !

3 of these would be too heavy even for blue dot in a 3" magnum, but 2 of them plus 3 #1 buck would be 734gr- almost on the money for 1 and 5/8 oz 3" magnums !

They will also fit like a glove in a 20 ga.... ahh, the possibilities !

I've been waiting on these for some time now, I cant wait to hit the furnace tomorrow and get rollin !

Anyone else have any idea what I could use these for ?

I'm friggin stoked

Sling shot ammo after you bulge all your shotgun barrels??

April 2, 2013, 12:26 AM
And why would this bulge a shottie bbl, out of curiosity ?

My slugs are considerably larger in size....... As are the centurion 6 and 1's.

Hope you aren't going back to the land of Cranky rc again- hope everything is going well in your corner of terra firma.

And here they be.

Before tumbling, anyway.

Most of them came out to between 284 and 285 gr- Close enough for gubment work !

April 2, 2013, 05:01 PM
Grape shot, those are frightening.

April 2, 2013, 05:06 PM
This would be all sorts of fun in a punt gun.......

Here is a video of my big old ball shooter, shooting two 16# and one 14# bowling balls. (

Oh, that looks like all kinds of fun !

My largest round balls were .69 cal. I never tried shooting one out of a shotgun but I shot lots of 16ga wads with shot out of the muzzle loader.

At 200ft the spread would cover a 1 acre pond. Good for Starlings.

April 2, 2013, 10:54 PM
You know Jmorris- I've watched that video over and over again.

Ibetcha could get some unreal power behind that with the right wad :D

Heck, even a wet dishtowel would prolly act just like a paper patched roundball.

Please let me know when you get the rifled one built :D I'd love to work on some custom airslugs for ya :D

I have a 2 gallon bucket that fits about perfect in the"barrel" thought about filling it full of golf balls but a few bowling balls are faster to find and figured it would be too dangerous to shoot them at a target where they might come back.

We tried a gallon jug of water wrapped in a towel but it just blew up the jug.

We did shoot it at an old roll over car down at the farm, has quite a bit of energy.

One of these is on my bucket list of builds and be a perfect use for your balls.

HAHA! Who says idle hands are the devil's playground? I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon. On a similar note, I have a pond FILLED with honking rats (aka - geese), so I might require your services :D

I wanna hunt deer with that........

Now, 10.5 #'s of .575 balls would be even more shot.... But that would be a really neat way to clean out a field, or a herd,,,,,,,,,,,

April 3, 2013, 03:46 PM
Will I was proud of my new air rifle being a .22 at 950fps. lol

I almost fell over in my chair laughing ... :D

Can you say "Knock Down" power? of a herd of deer? :D:D:D

Hmmmm ... I guess you could mount it on an ATV and ... BANG! Down several deer.

April 3, 2013, 04:30 PM
Be too hard to hunt with, we have tried bowling with it though.

Videos ( (

Best thing about it is that it's cheaper to shoot than .22's and seems to be more fun for a little bit.

First loads with 'em- ina test shell mind you, but thats how testing starts.

This is also the first shell i've pressed in my newly working Texan progressive 12ga Reloader.

*nods @ bds*

More of a proof of concept, really.

For those who care, thats an SP12 wad.

*looks closer*

Wow, that looks really savage, I guess I could have cut it a little prettier.... and my buffer isn't exactly AAA either.

April 3, 2013, 06:12 PM
Looking good!

Congrats on getting those Texan reloaders going! :D

See, "paying it forward" do pay off. ;):D

April 3, 2013, 06:19 PM
Amen on that, it sure does.

I soaked the 12 ga loader in a can of wd40 for two days before I even touched it- it was locked up TIGHTtightTIGHT.

Runs like a charm now. Just need two things : a MEC sizemaster for the hull prep, and the bushings.... which I should have in about two weeks.

Wow. Compressed air? I've seen similar things on "punkin chuckin" contests. Have you ever stuffed a pumpkin in it?

April 3, 2013, 08:01 PM
Hard to argue with results like that.......

April 4, 2013, 08:54 AM
Wow, I was just fixing to ask how they shoot. At what distance was the target?

Sorry about the thread jack.

April 4, 2013, 10:27 AM
totally OK.

That was at 20 yards- Not exactly sniperrific, but this is promising at least.

More to come.

April 4, 2013, 10:46 AM
Thats not bad for 20 yards but I see room for 3 in there with a cardboard wad.

April 4, 2013, 11:05 AM
Its not a size thing , its a weight thing.

April 4, 2013, 11:30 AM
.45 is as big as I go with a slingshot.. they whomp the crap out of rabbits!

April 4, 2013, 04:52 PM
I do need good wrist-rocket, I cast a perfect .457 roundball.........

April 4, 2013, 10:08 PM
Yep, .457 for a Ruger Old Army!

April 4, 2013, 10:23 PM
that's what my wife said :)
