My M48 build is giving me more trouble than it is worth. Now the rear action screw is stuck I can rotate it about a half turn but than it binds up. I have already shattered three tool steel bits trying to get it out. Any ideas? I have spared it with Kroil and PB blaster and it is still stuck solid. I am guessing some metal flakes/shavings are in the groves causing the screw to bind.

Some guys have used a hand impact drivers with hollow ground bits to break action screws free on milsurps. Just make sure the gun is held secure. Exsuse me for asking but this isn't a rebuild using a action with the small lock screws on the main action screws? They need to be removed first. This has happened before with people unfamiliar with Mauser actions. Good luck.

Ok now I feel like a full fledged retard, instead of just a trainee, for not thinking of that myself - thanks Scooter!

To help clarify, do your trigger guard screws look like this?

Before you go any further with this project, I suggest that you get a copy of Jerry Kuhnhausen's manual on Mausers. There is a wealth of information there that can save you lots of time, aggravation, and money. You can get it from Brownells, Midway, Amazon, or direct from the publisher @ www.gunbooks.com.

Theres no stupid questions. Ask if your not sure before you break something. Thats what these sites are for. I still ask allot of questions and I,ve been messing with guns for 35+ years. Good luck. Post some pics.
