Yesterday I hit the Cabela's in Dundee MI and got 100 rounds of Herter's 45acp and 2000 Winchester large rifle primers. Is Heter's good brass for reloading?
A few weeks ago I picked up some Magtech 45 ammo. What kind of quality it that.

Buy the way, cabela's had a ton of the herter's 45acp.

My experience with Herters brass is very good for reloading, seating the primers is a little harder like S&B brass.

Make sure that the Herters ammo is in brass cases. Use a magnet to determine if the cases are possibly steel.

The box says brass case. Thanks for the info.

May say brass, but I have heard that sometimes
It could be plated.

MagTech (CBC) is excellent quality brass. I've reloaded it in several different calibers and it's all been good. They also make excellent primers, if you can find them.

Hope this helps.

Current production Herter's can be steel, aluminum, or brass cased. It's all clearly marked on the package.

I like their brass cased stuff but the primer pockets are pretty tight and have no chamfer to them at all. Anytime I get once fired Herter's brass I put a slight chamfer on the primer pockets and case mouths and it's good to go. It sizes nicely and has good tension. It does seem somewhat brittle though. I've had a few cases that I've had to toss after only 2 mid-range reloads because it split from the mouth to half way down the case.

I like Magtech brass even better. Starline, Magtech, and Speer/Blazer brass are my favorites.

I now reload the Herters .45ACP steel cases (Wolf also). I only wish I had started ten years ago, instead of chucking many thousands in the trash bin. Never have had a single issue at all, thousands of loads later, in a bunch of auto pistols and revolvers alike.

Thanks for the insight. I will use both and try to buy more Magtech.

Found a dozen or so Magtec (CBC head stamp) .45s at the range the other day. Also got about 200 once fired from a guy there so it was a good day. Just reloaded them and they loaded fine. Don't know what powder / primers are in them but the cases were clean! Looked about like new brass.Everything I've heard is they're good brass
