LEO only?

I've got a Rem 700 PSS up for sale & somebody asked me if it was restricted to LEO only possession anywhere. I'd think not since it is a bolt-action rifle whose only 'evil' feature is a black matte finish.
Does anybody know of any state or local ordinances that would treat a PSS differently than any other bolt-action?

I'm not an expert, so you can take this advice with a grain of salt if you like, but I don't see any reason it would be strictly LEO only. It's got a legal barrel length, and overall length. So you should be fine, but you might want to ask a local gunshop because they should have all the answers you need.

I know of no Federal or Florida law that restricts any bolt action rifle to law enforcement. Can't say about other states or the PRK.

Don't know of anything restricting that to LEO's only either.

It's legal in NYS as long as it meets the Federal lenght requirments.

I researched this for a good part of the day today. Used Very credible sources. I have found nothing to say that it is illegal. And have found it specially documented at one source to be legal in all 50.

Oh.... and BTW Bobs.... Lets do this. im a motivated buyer! :D

Thanks,

Feds and State set guidelines on weapons sales/ownership.

Everything else is marketing.

there was some discussion in the TFL rifle forum a year or so ago, that remington was not going to market the PSS in the civilian realm

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=14434

The Police line of Remington rifle sales (PSS and Police DM) are restricted to Law Enforcement Firearm Distributors.
They are not cataloged rifles for sale to the civilian market but are not restricted for LEO firearm distributors to sale to the general public.
This isn't something new this has been this way for many years.
I purchased mine in 1996 and ask 5 dealers to get me their best price on the rifle. 2 came back the next day and told me Remington wouldn't even let them order it because they were not police distributors, but another dealer came back with the right price and I bought it from him

I know of NO laws restricting the sale of bolt action rifles in the Golden State ;)

A lot of things that seem like legal issues are simply marketing.

For example, you can still get "Black Talon" ammunition. Winchester markets it as Ranger SXT (not T) and only sells it to LEO distributors, but it is perfectly legal for civilians to own. The box says for LEO's only, but that is a company policy, not an actual law.

The last time I remember this coming up, I recall something along the lines of Remmington had a policy to not sell it to non-LEO dealers, but that beyond that there were no restrictions regarding civilian purchase, so long as the configuration is such that the rifle is in accordance with state and federal laws.
