Is it legal for me to travel with my March-legal rifle to the range or can I not do that until I have registered it?

Who would be the best legal authority to ask? State troopers?

\\Edit- Sigh...forgot not everyone lives in this <deleted> state. I meant in regards to CT.

You are good until January 1, 2014. If it is newly banned you have a grace period until then to get it registered.

State Troopers are not necessarily the best people to ask for legal advice. They are not lawyers, they may be as ignorant about the law as the rest of us.

Great, thank you for the info.

Not to be specific about states, but generally police are the worst people to ask about the law; they figure if you ask, you are either violating the law or planning to do so. I have heard horror stories about people who asked a cop if something was legal and found themselves being taken into custody, harassed and questioned for hours.

Either read the law yourself, or get an attorney.

Yeah, that's what we LEO's are all thinking. It's unlikely that you heard about the millions of times such questions were asked and simply answered.

Funny...while interning with the state police here in CT they didn't seem to interpret my questions, or the ones asked by those I saw them interact with as indications the person was going to break the law...

Seriously, while they aren't the best source for the law (I guarantee most still don't know 99% of the new law themselves, and those that know anything, know about as much as anyone on this forum, that is to say, not much) they aren't going to assume a simple question about a brand new law and what you can do while the new procedures are implemented as meaning you intend to violate the laws.
