Midway USA notification

Let me say first that I am a customer and a fan of Midway USA. I shop there a lot.

For those who may be unfamiliar with it, Midway USA has a "notify me" where they will send you an email when an out-of-stock item is received.

Has anyone used this system for ammunition? And if so, were you successful? I have several brands/types of ammunition in the different calibers that I shoot on this system. When I get the email chime on my phone, I am in their website within seconds. But every time they are sold out. Is there a trick to this that I don't know about?

I've been having the same bad luck when it comes to email notifications on ammo from them. I even sent them an email about it, asking if the notices were being sent before the status was updated. My response was in essence that it goes quick to everyone having smart phones and people hop on it ASAP. I too have a smart phone, but in less than 10 seconds from the real time email alerts, the product seems to be sold out, so I still call shenanigans on that. With that said, I still like Midway. I just gave up on putting a notice on ammo until this madness goes away...whenever that may be. Good luck!

I managed to snag a box of hornady 9mm FMJ bullets (not ammunition) from them but that's it. Thank goodness for my smartphone...

keep in mind real time isn't always real time. Emails can take time to get sent through systems and once received by your providers system there can be a delay in it actually hitting your inbox.

Large mailings can take hours to send out for a variety of reasons.

Notifed me three times in the past couple of weeks, but sold out by the time I got on their website. Probably thousands of other people are also signed up to be notified when a couple of hundred items come in.

The first time I was alerted for some Glock mags being in stock I had maybe 10 minutes to get on and buy some.

The second time I was alerted they were gone before I could get to the page.

More demand than supply so not much we can do about it.

I have the same experience trying to buy a bolt carrier group. Unless you have a smart phone it is very frustrating. I have gotten 9 notices so far,each was sold out when I opened the message, a few minutes after it was sent. :fire:

At least you ate getting the notifications. I haven't seen one from an of the sites that provide that service.

^ Im getting them all the time too.. Just dont have a whole lot of luck beating the buzzards circling. Even with instantaneous response times..

I wonder if it could be arranged so they go through their notification list randomly instead of sequentially, so everybody has an equal chance of being notified first, for each separate notification. Ought to make it more fair, to my mind.

I have. Unfortunatly, much of the time the purchase limits combined with the shipping charges make it uneconomical to actually buy. I've had much better luck with magazines, having scored new mags for my Glock 17, 21, and 36 as well as my Ruger Mk III. Do be aware that in most cases, high demand items like mags and ammo only remain in stock a matter of minutes. I'm lucky in that I spend most of my waking hours either in front of a compter (for work) or with a smart phone in my pocket.

I know it's sometimes hard to fathom other people being of equal value to a large company but do you supposed for just a minute that you wern't the first person to ask for these notifications and that midway sends emails out in smaller batches in the order recieved to give folks that have been waiting longer first crack?

I don't know about the notification, but I can say I back ordered a box of 45acp 200gr gold dots once and 14 months later after I had totally forgotten about them they showed up at the door. I couldn't even remember ordering them, I got on the computer and checked my orders and saw the order was for 14 months old.

I currently have some mags that have been backordered since last November.
Some even say discontinued by manufacture, but they still say backordered.
We'll see what happens, I don't have high hopes.

My GUESS with the notifications, is that when the stuff comes in you get notified, then they fill backorders and nothing ever actually is available, but they get you off the notify list.

After starting this post, I received another notification last night. It wasn't pretty.

It went something like this:
Notification chime on my phone.
No time to get to a laptop, have to go in on my phone.
(Keep in mind, I'm on my phone, in a hurry and too old to be a digital native)
Hit the link to the item. Maximum quantity allowed is 6 boxes. I don't want to be greedy , so I'll buy 3.
First, change the quantity in that little box from 1 to 3.
Have to enlarge the screen so I can key.
Too large, lost the quantity box. Bring back down. There it is.
Enter 3 quantity.
Click continue.
Wait, it says 31. How did that ...oh, have to delete the 1 before entering 3.
Back up one screen.
Pick up phone after dropping on the floor.
Erase qty 1, enter 3.
Click continue.
Accidentally entered 2. Not going back, guess I'll buy 2.
Shipping and billing are correct.
Have to enter code for CC.
Enlarge screen again...too large again, bring back down.
Pick up phone from floor, again.
Enter CC code. Wait, that was the code from the old card. Have to get the new card out of my wallet to get the new code.
Re-enter CC code.
Click review order.
Looks good.
Place order.

I got 2--100 pi boxes of 357 mag 158gr bullets from Midway----I did not get any e-mail--I was just looking at 357 bullets & it popped up--available

I got my notify from sportsmanship guide, and managed to order magazines quick enough. They are supposed to be in the mail.

One time it was 1 hour. A second time it was 35 minutes. The last time was about 20 minutes. Each and every time, the ammo in question was sold out by the time I got to the site. :banghead:

I tried to buy some .30 cal Hornady bullets about 6 months ago, "Soldout, can re-order." I clicked on the order form, they had my email address. I'd almost forgotten about the order, one day an email notice from Midway was on my computer, "Please advise". I jumped on that like rat on a Cheeto!! I had 3 boxes of the bullets sent, received in about a week. ONLY time I've lucked out.

I'm not sure about this, but I'm wondering if they fill back-orders before they service to the notification list. People with back-orders have already paid, right? They would get preference. The notification might go out automatically before the back-orders get filled (also automatically). I'm not sure, but that's a theory.

Sometimes those notifications are delayed on your phone. That and demand is so high that they very well may just be sold out.

My phone receives new emails before my laptop or 3G Ipad. (Yahoo email) I am not sure how they send out the notifications. Either by order of signup or by mass email to those on the list. (????)

I keep signing up though and have gotten through to buy stuff on occasion.

Large mailings can take hours to send out for a variety of reasons.

As a Computer person myself. This is likely the reason and the fact that demand is still way high.
Good luck to those looking for ammo. Check the trading post entries there are a few of us with ammo looking to trade it for something else.

It should be, as I believe it is, first come first served plain and simple. Those switched on, that think and plan win. Those that don't lose. Pretty simple. For whiners, maybe not.

Maybe this might help...

It can't be first-come-first served because the email notifications go out in batches, depending on the service provider they use for marketing. Most organizations do not do this themselves, otherwise they would get blacklisted. They pay companies like Constant Contact or ExactTarget to do this for them. These companies throttle their outgoing SPAM as well, otherwise - blacklist.

Also, your own Internet provider will throttle these types of emails onto their own servers.

Sooooooooo, depending on where you are in the country or where your place is on that email list, you may never get notified at the same moment as the guy sitting next to you using a different provider. So, no - not whiners...

I use the service if it something I really want. I get the email the product is in. I don't have to keep checking all the time.

I've been notified of tons of things so far, and bought all of them immediately.

If you're quick, you can get what you need.

The only thing that irritates me is that I'm not buying panic items. It's like scope rings and cleaning supplies lol.

25 Minutes is an eternity in this market for ammo and reloading supplies.....

I have been successful from my smart phone. If you get a notification add to cart as quick as possible.

I really commend Midway for not gouging prices and I got a memo email with a statement that no employees of Midway are allowed to purchase these items until the shortage gets under control.

I have done a ton of business with them and will for sure keep doing business with them.

When I've been successful with high demand stuff (mags and ammo) it's been when I actually saw the notification appear in my mail box and jumped on it immediately. They probably send out hundreds if not thousands of notifications on those sorts of items so they sell out again in a matter of minutes.
