Haven't seen any smith's for sale locally so ran across this 19-5 and paid more than I wanted but it came with a nice right handed Bianchi cyclone holster except I am a southpaw. Gun appears unfired locks up like a colt no endshake at all. No cutting or erosion on the top strap. double action trigger is heavy. He was asking $650 got it for $550.00 grips have some small chips on them. I guess the price will be forgotten shortly only plan to shoot .38s out of it but I got a 14-1 for that but I got the bug to buy something so I guess there are worse guns to spend money on than a 19.

IMHO you did not overpay. No-one is giving these gems away in my experience. You payed fair freight and I do believe others have paid more. Remember that tired old saw "they don't make 'em like that anymore".

P.S. You got a pretty nicely figured target grip, even if not pristine. I have a 14-2 and a 19-4. I would just stay away from 110 gr. and 125 gr .357 loads in the 19 and you are good. You have two revolver icons that will be the envy of many a shooter in your lifetime. If you told me you bought a Python, THEN I would say you overpaid.

Nice Model 19 and I would have popped $550 for it in a heartbeat.

You can sell the holster for more than a new set of grips like that will cost. That's a $650 (+ shipping and FFL fees) Smith all day long on Gunbroker.

I would gladly pay $550 for such a fine specimen.

You didn't overpay. It's a very nice revolver. That tiny bit of wear in the grip isn't even what I'd call a chip. Given time it'll fade to be largely unnoticeable, or you can speed it up with a bit of linseed oil.

That would be a pretty good deal around these parts. It's true the 4" guns seem to be more desired but still, that's a pretty gun and well worth it. I sold a 4" recently in about similar condition for $625.

$550-$650 seems to be the asking price for a Taurus in that sort of condition around here. That looks like a very nice Smith. I love the grips on there too.

You didn't steal it, but that's not a bad price at all.

And you will soon forget about the price while appreciating that very pretty revolver.

In my area that is a good price for a gun in that shape. I can't see any holster wear on the end of the muzzle, or etching above forcing cone and even if it did that is what i have seen the 4" 19-5's going for. The snub's and the 6" bring a little bit more.

Hi,
Six months ago I sold a 19-2 4 inch for $500. The condition of the revolver was like yours. Shooter grade. I would say you did well. If you plan to shoot 357 magnums, stay with 158 gr. I used CCI Blazer 158gr hollow points at the range with mine and never had any problems. Keep the revolver clean around the forcing cone. You made a good decision.
Good luck,
Howard

Sometimes you buy a gun a little too soon and the market has to catch up with what you paid.

I think you bought that for a reasonable price. I have the stainless version of the Model 19 (a Model 66) and it is one of my favorite revolvers.

Yep, nice one. I would give $550 for that without a thought. That's exactly what I need to go with my Marlin rifle. If I had that I wouldn't have passed up the 2 100ct boxes of .357 Rem. at Wally World today...$54 a box.

You think he'd have overpaid on a Python for $550 ? You gotta be kidding, even with those grips it'd be worth $400 more!

788HAM, my point was that if he'd bought a similar Python, it would have been more like 2K and he would not have gotten that much more gun.

Good luck finding that 950.00 Python.

Yeah, you paid too much. I only paid $125 for this one. Of course, that was in 1975. Prices have gone up a bit since then.

+1 on "Didn't overpay".

You paid exactly what you were willing to pay for it and it really doesn't matter what others might have paid or not.

But I would have paid the same too. Looks like a nice revolver. Congratulations.

I'll echo everyone else in saying you didn't overpay ,and I'll also add that the nice thing about a model 19 is that you'll always be able to get your money out of it. They are among the most desirable of the old Smiths (after gems like the registered magnum, model 28, .38-44 and some other rare variants), not being made any more, and prices on them seem to keep going up and up. I got my 95-97ish% condition 8 years ago for $295, and overpaid at the time. These days, you'd think I was robbing someone if they sold that gun to me at that price.

That 19 is going ot be a great shooter for you! I just hope you can find some .38spl target ammo for less than $21/box. It seems .38 prices have gone nuts recently.

That is a 'Pinto' 19. I bought a TRASHED 19 for $300 and always wanted a 'Pinto' so............off it went to S&W. $252 dollars later this is how it came back. The blue is DEEP ROYAL BLUE.

Good price, great gun. That gun doesn't show any signs of shooting wear. I have a nice 6" 19-3 and a 14-3 (I have a "3" collection for some reason). The 19 gives you the option of putting something "longer" in it for special occasions.

Medium to heavy .38 Special rounds shouldn't ever wear that gun out.

I don't think a gun is broken in until I've shot the price of the gun in ammo through it.

I suppose you don't need another voice telling you this, but you were lucky to get that gun for $550 in the current market.

The DA trigger is probably heavy because it hasn't been used enought to smooth itself out. That's not necessarily a bad thing.
