I'm going to go with the Flash Gordon ray gun.

Something about that front sight just screams "Ming the Merciless" to me more than Killer Kane.

But then again, I could be wrong.

Whatever it is, it sure is ugly.

It's a comemerative DisneyWorld stungun, circa 1957. Note the Mickey Mouse ears on top.

Looks like a Buck Rogers Rocket Pistol, made by Daisy in the '30s. I think they made a colorful version of the gun in the '50s

Ack, that's not a gyrojet is it?

Assuming it wasn't a homemade pistol done by someone who should have been making license plates at the time, it looks like a Liberator type pistol of some kind. Its not the CIA Deer gun that was made for Vietnam civilians but it could be some other country's idea of a Liberator pistol for some other conflict. The Liberator's were .45 and the Deer guns were 9mm I believe.

It looks like on of those guns that shoots the triangle shaped ammunition (well more like a round bullet in a triangular sabot).

$50/shot, IIRC.

I think that the gyrojet was the name...I think braindead0 has it right...

This is a gyrojet, but maybe the Jetson's version above is a prototype?

Nope, not a Gyrojet. They were much more substantial than the apparent sheet metal gun. Sure looks like a toy, cap gun or ray gun type. If it's a real gun, then I'm going with SaxonPig's theory - some liberator type of single shot. Looks like it is cocked or maybe loaded by pushing the grip forward.

Sisco, can you post a pic from the rear and front?

Spackler got it right first, he would win the prize if there were one! :D
Thanks for the link Flatfender, I've been trying to find out more about it.
It belonged to my Father-in-law, it was his toy when he was a kid. Given his age it's probably one of the first year models. All Daisy could tell me about it was that it was marketed from 1934-1943 or so.

Caveman Grog Tactical II.

It's made by the Acme Firearms Company. I've seen it used many times in the Roadrunner cartoons.

Hey! Gyrojets WERE made of sheet metal. Only the barrel was of any substance, and even then, not up to par of gunmetal. They have the weight & feel of toy guns.

Gyrogets launch as a two-stage projectile, 1st stage, low velocity propellant to eject from gun (I think 300fps), and 2nd stage the rocket fires outside of gunbarrel and hits final velocity ~15 yards from muzzle.

Cheap, light, silent gun with no recoil. Problem was inaccuracy of the projectiles, expense of ammo, and they weren't as lethal in SD ranges. Also tended to start fires.

The Gyrojet was made of stamped steel and alloy parts of a thicker gauge than the toy appears to be. But it doesn't matter, they were both toys with the Gyrojet taking a very slight edge in usefullness over the Ray Gun. ;)

I've only seen gyrojet pistols once, at Pamona gun show in California (a long long timea go)... Heard the projectiles are pretty effective once you get out to 15yds..if you can hit things..
