How many EDC guns do you have?

April 13, 2013, 09:01 PM
Simple question... How many EDC guns do you have, and are they the same type? Example: You carry four or five different 1911's varying in size, but manual of arms and feel are essentially the same, or you carry your 1911 one day, your Glock another, and your PM9 the next. Different sizes, manual of arms, and feel.

EDIT - EDC meaning "Every Day Carry". And reason I ask, is I was thinking about adding a 1911 to the carry rotation, but having to train for a whole new type of gun seemed to be more trouble than it was worth.

What's an "EDC"?

April 13, 2013, 09:09 PM
Every Day Carry

I have a 1911 that I carry every day, and a Signa that I used to carry, but now sits on the nightstand for the wife while I'm not home. I carry it maybe twice a year , now. Mostly when I fish from a boat. Id rather my 1911 not be list in a "tragic boating accident".

April 13, 2013, 09:10 PM
It means "every day carry"

April 13, 2013, 09:11 PM
Unless you are carrying multiple guns everyday do they count as every day carry guns? If I carried one 1911 one day a glock the next they wouldn't truly be EVERY DAY carry guns would they?

April 13, 2013, 09:13 PM
Fine, "some days carry".

April 13, 2013, 09:14 PM
I went with what I have carried vs what I could carry if I wanted to do it. I believe that was the spirit of the question.

April 13, 2013, 09:46 PM
It means "every day carry"
Thanks Guys.

My EDC is a S&W 642 Revolver in a pocket holster. My STC (Some Times Carry :D ) is a Colt CCO 1911.

Completely different guns in every way, but I never have any confusion shooting them.

April 13, 2013, 10:35 PM
I wonder why I see the same question like this on a half dozen forums the last week, is somebody trying to capitalize on buying crates of a certain brand?

Or I guess it could be "popularity" shopping, I often do that on Amazon, I just base my choice on sheer popularity.

1, it's a question about how many people carry one type of gun vs. many types of gun. Nothing to do with brand or popularity.

2, keep your mouth shut if you've got nothing useful to contribute.

April 13, 2013, 11:32 PM
Diamondback db380 pocket carry most days
Taurus 651 357 pocket carry carry about 2 times a week
S&w model 12 iwb carry in winter months.

April 13, 2013, 11:44 PM
"I" carry an RIA 1911 A1 every day, though a few times I DO carry the wife's S&W M&P 40C but not EDC or even close to that.

April 14, 2013, 12:21 AM
Currently these 3 are in my rotation

Beretta Type M
Colt LW Commander
S&W JFrame

Ive been thinking hard about making some changes, just need to get off my butt and order new holsters for some of my others.

April 14, 2013, 12:29 AM
2 Similar.
Beretta Storm SC
S&W 469

Where's the option for zero? :o:(

April 14, 2013, 12:39 AM
I don't have ONLY one pocket knife either. I really wish I was the kind of guy to be satisfyed with only one, for the sake of my wallet.

April 14, 2013, 12:56 AM
I seem to go to extremes, I'm either pocket carrying a KAHR PM45 or a NAA Mini, or both. I also keep a p220 as a truck gun along with a rifle of some sort under the back seat, don't know if you count those as EDC, I didn't, I voted 2 different ones.
Traffic stops can be fun with 4 guns in the truck, they sometimes forget why they pulled me over in the first place. Lol.

April 14, 2013, 01:56 AM
I like carrying my Beretta Jetfire, Kahr PM9, S&W 442, and Kimber Compact CDP. Most of the time it's the Beretta or S&W as they are light and I live in a place where street crimes are just about non-existent. I'm getting used to the Kah and that may move up in the rotation. I carry the Kimber or another full size 1911 when I'm in the back country for SaR activities but am also familiarizing myself with my FNP-45 and sticking to the one magazine.

April 14, 2013, 02:19 AM
I work form home so I EDC a glock 26, 17, or a 22 depending on my mood.

April 14, 2013, 02:24 AM
I am limited to three on my permit, and I prefer a single manual of arms for carry, so currently it's G30, G26 and G36. I may bump the 36 off the permit for a 23.

April 14, 2013, 02:36 AM
Just one. I think I'll sooner buy an identical EDC as a spare than buy a different platform as an alternative carry. I've given thought to changing things up, but I always come back to the same conclusion, which is to just keep it simple. When I'm in the mood for options, I'll go to the range and have fun with a variety of guns. When I'm carrying, I want simplicity, familiarity, and consistency.

That may not be an issue for other people, and that's great. Just giving my thoughts on my own carry habits and priorities.

April 14, 2013, 02:48 AM
3 types - sort of similar, yet different enough.

Glock 26, 17 & 30

April 14, 2013, 03:44 AM
I may bump the 36 off the permit for a 23.

Just curious as to what kind of pain in the rump that is?

April 14, 2013, 05:28 AM
Why did you limit it to five? I get what "+" means but that could be as few as 6.

April 14, 2013, 07:48 AM
I would have to say four different types of guns on a rotating basis as my EDC. And more like six or more guns in the availabe line-up.

April 14, 2013, 08:05 AM
I do not subscribe to the notion of "Beware the man with one gun; he may know how to use it." Most people I know with only one gun are not proficient shooters and will never attend training. Enthusiasts tend to have multiple guns and most put in the time.

Furthermore, the whole single manual of arms idea as related to training is bunk. A shooter should be able to pick up any gun and shoot well with it. A person with experience with only one gun will likely have trouble with other guns under stress. I have watched good 1911 and Glock shooters fall apart when handed a SIG, Beretta or even a tuned revolver.

Trigger control is the most important aspect of handgun shooting and is the most difficult skill to master. I spend quite a bit of time working with different actions. My J-Frame is improving my shooting since I must be very careful with trigger control in order to group well with it. Do not become dependent upon one gun's trigger for good performance!

LCR most of the time - 1911 some of the time - GP100 occasionally. Sometimes the LCR goes along with one of the others.

I voted 4, but it really shows an evolution in my CC pistols:

SIG 230SL: (

Les Baer “Stinger” (CCO) (

Walther PPS-9 (

Walther PPQ-9 (

95% of the time it's the PPS, followed by the PPQ. It looks like at 52 years old I finally discovered the benefit to tactical Tupperware".

April 14, 2013, 09:14 AM
These days its: Glock 19, H&K P30, DW vBob.

April 14, 2013, 02:35 PM
I don't get a carry rotation. I can see having a smaller gun when you have to go for a deeper carry but a bunch of different guns around the same size. I just don't get that. Carry what you shoot best and can conceal. If you are rotating five then four out of five times you are not carrying your best gun. If I have to use a gun I would just as soon be carrying my best gun. I just don't get it.

April 14, 2013, 02:56 PM
I have several semiautos with a concealed carry setup. A Kimber pro CDP, M&P 9c, 40c and 9mm pro, sig P226 and actively looking for a p229. Had a P238 and considering a 938. Also looking at a 45 1911 compact for carry.

I shoot at least once a week with several of my guns. I usually will rotate out my EDC every few weeks depending on mood and weather, however, my M&P compact models are my go to for the most part.

April 14, 2013, 08:17 PM
I voted 1 because I only carry my pocket 9, but I suppose I have 5 that could do the job if I had holsters for them.

April 14, 2013, 09:16 PM
2. One in my pocket or IWB (LCP now, used to be a G26) and a gov't 1911 that follows me into my truck, or goes open on my hip when spring finally returns to Wisconsin I get back on the motorcycle

April 14, 2013, 09:34 PM
Depends on where I'm going, what I'm doing, what I'm wearing.

S&W 5904 in a Crossbreed IWB is my most carried, and I actually have three of them. It's a utilitarian favorite for this guy who grew up before polymer. A Ruger LCP in a good Leather Wallet Holster is also very common for me, as is a 2-1/2"bbl S&W 637 pocket-carried in a Desantis Nemesis. I carry always, the only thing that changes is the place and circumstances.

April 14, 2013, 09:36 PM
If it is more than one it is not your everyday carry.

April 14, 2013, 10:52 PM
. . . unless you carry more than one gun every day. It could be simultaneously, it could be sequential. . . .

April 14, 2013, 11:59 PM
I have 4 that are good carry options to me and I carry the largest one I can comfortably carry based on what I'm wearing that day. Start with my CZ P01, then down to my Kahr CW9, then 642 and if all of the above don't work then my Keltec P3AT. Seldom need to go below the 642 though. P3AT usually only used for jogging/biking or as a BUG. Of course, could always carry my 1911 or full-sized CZ 75b, but never do since I consider my P01 big enough.

April 15, 2013, 12:18 AM
I voted 2 guns, different types - a full size 1911, and an M&P40c with thumb safety. I carry them about equally often.

April 15, 2013, 12:55 AM
Just curious as to what kind of pain in the rump that is?
I have to take the new addition to the Sheriff's office and tell them which one to replace. They type a new permit, charge me $3, and away I go. They get a bit peaved if I do it often, so I try just to do it on renewal dates.

April 15, 2013, 01:02 AM
When I carry, it's my cz82. If I end up with an LCP, that'll become the one.

April 15, 2013, 01:02 AM
Well, if you carry a single gun every day, wouldn't you only have the one? Any switch ups mean it wasn't carried every day. Therefore not EDC.

Lol I'm just kidding.

April 15, 2013, 02:31 AM
One primary carry pistol, and one light clothing CCW.

April 15, 2013, 07:06 AM
Primary is a Kel-Tec PF9. While traveling to and from work (a no-carry site), it's a P32. Sometimes I like to throw on a revolver instead (while off work.) It's becoming more and more often that it's my dad's old Ruger Police Serive Six, but it's also sometimes his Charter Arms Undercover, dated from 1966 (or mine, from ten years later.)

April 15, 2013, 11:44 AM
I answered four, though that is somewhat disingenuous, because I only carry at most two "everyday". The guns in my "rotation" are:

S&W 642-1 .38 Special
Ruger SP101 DAO .357 Magnum
Beretta 84FS .380 ACP
S&W M&P45 Mid-Size .45 ACP

I carry the Beretta off-safe, and its design is such that, combined with my holster, it is never going to be accidentally on-safe. So, all of them are point and shoot propositions. I don't even notice the DA/SA transition, so that is a non-issue.

Still, the guns are carry the most are the 642 and the M&P45, the SP101 after that, and the 84FS the least. Now that the weather is changing the 84FS might replace the M&P45 in the order though. We will see.

April 15, 2013, 11:51 AM
Three: .380, 9mm single stack, and 9mm double stack

April 15, 2013, 11:54 AM
Sig 239 and Smith 642. Although, after I do some reliability testing and receive my Supertuck, my CZ 75D PCR might replace the Sig.

April 15, 2013, 09:34 PM
Thanks to carrying guns for a living, I really do carry 3 guns every day. My Kimber full-size, my Kimber ultra carry, and a S&W 642 all ride on me while on duty.

April 15, 2013, 10:24 PM
Even when i carry another i always have the one

April 16, 2013, 12:53 AM
My carry rotation, depending on clothing/weather/activity of the day...
(top) Glock 39, Kel-Tec P-32, Glock 30 (bottom) S&W Model 325PD, H&K P-7M8
Mostly ends up being the Glock 39 and the Kel-Tec P-32.

April 16, 2013, 09:20 AM
Sig P238 or XDs, both now in Crossbreed OWB holsters.

Galactic Marine
April 16, 2013, 12:16 PM
Kahr K40 or MK40 and sometimes Kel-Tec P3AT as a back-up.

April 16, 2013, 06:53 PM
I voted 2, different styles, to include the gun I have on layaway.
Double stack 9mm and a single stack 9mm.

April 16, 2013, 07:37 PM
Well, I have 3 Springfield XD/XDM's all in 9mm, that includes a XD Tactical, XDM standard model, and XDM 5.25" which are in the rotation. And I have 2 BHP's in .40 that I also rotate through at various times, usually when I want to look pretty.

April 16, 2013, 10:32 PM
AMT .45 Back Up
Sig 230SL
Taurus 689/Colt King Cobra

Two open carry and two CCW sometimes augmented by a Taurus 5 shot .38 - no idea what model number that one is.

April 16, 2013, 10:47 PM
Two, I guess. A taurus 605 and then a mak. The 605 is really my only dedicated carry gun.

sent from my Galaxy Note II.

April 17, 2013, 07:50 AM
I said 5+ because all my pistol's or revolvers can and have been carried at one time or another. My most carried are my G19 and Kimber UCII.
I've put about 500 rnds through my new XDs 45 so it will probably see some
summer carry.I shoot a lot and with many different actions so Im not overly
concerned about changing platforms.Im lucky in that I have a range in my back yard.If I did'nt shoot a lot I would stick with strieker fired.

April 17, 2013, 08:49 AM
1 EDC DAO .380acp
2 back up guns SA/DA .380acp .45acp

April 17, 2013, 05:39 PM
My two favorites are:

"Turk" made Beretta 92f Centurion

Canik 55 TP9

Both in 9mm. (I really like Turkish made handguns)

April 17, 2013, 05:43 PM
Anything from a mini revolver to a large auto, and some of both in between. I like a change of pace. Sometimes nothing at all. I don't put deep thought into any of it. Grab one and go, or not.

April 17, 2013, 07:06 PM
Currently I have three pistols. Of them, my EDC is my Colt 1991A1.

Occasionally, I may carry my Beretta 92FS. If I do, most of the time it's because I want to take it shooting so I just carry it as my concealed weapon.

When I'm out hunting/fishing, I tend to carry my Automag II. It's generally not carried concealed, though, being in a holster on my hip.

April 17, 2013, 10:43 PM
Currently, I have 4 handguns in the "rotation". I don't really rotate carry guns per se, just have different models for different purposes.

Primary: Russian Makarov. Easy to shoot, tough as nails, and 100% reliable.

Backup: Iver Johnson Cadet 55-S in 22LR. Small, cheap and it works.

Outdoors/Winter: Colt King Cobra, plenty of punch for most jobs.

Breaking In: Kel-Tec PF9, small & light. Once it has proven itself it will be my EDC.

I used to CC a Colt SAA .357 on a regular basis, but I have semi retired this one, it only comes out on range days. When I am out and about in the great outdoors, I generally open carry a .44 Mag or one of the .357's.

So depending on what's happening on any given day, I could be carrying a hammer fired DA/SA, a striker fired DAO, a DA revolver with a swing out cylinder, or a DA revolver that loads single action style!

April 18, 2013, 12:38 PM
Three in various combinations:

Judge poly .410

Springfield XD .40 subcompact

Keltec p3at in a shoot-thru wallet holster

The 380 is usually a bug.

April 18, 2013, 01:27 PM
Most of the handguns I have were bought with the thought of concealed carry. I have probably 10 different guns I choose from to carry depending on mood, How I am dressed, weather and where I will be going.

April 18, 2013, 02:06 PM
Kahr CM9
Ruger LCP

April 19, 2013, 01:17 PM
glock 23 everyday, no need to change or rotate

April 19, 2013, 02:01 PM
For me its mostly my pm9, sometimes my t9, and rarely my SR9c(too big but11 rds is nice). Next to buy is hopefully a p380.

Sauer Grapes
April 19, 2013, 04:08 PM
I've bought several guns with the thought of carrying them, but I just never did. My main carry gun just fits my personality I guess.

I do have one polymer sub compact for certain situations where I need absolute comfort and concealment. Other than that I'm always carrying a fullsize stainless steel handgun.

April 19, 2013, 06:35 PM
Only carry the HKP30S right now

April 19, 2013, 06:54 PM
I have four guns that I have ever carried; three are revolvers. I can't carry at work )though that may soon change), so EDC is not exactly an accurate description.

April 20, 2013, 12:07 AM
9mm Shield in the pocket. P228 near me every day.

April 23, 2013, 06:59 PM
A Ruger LCP or S+W 342 for pocket carry
S+W Shield or M&P9c for IWB

April 23, 2013, 08:50 PM
A Colt magnum carry IWB most of the time. In the hot summer months I carry the S&W 332 PD H&R magnum in the pocket, as it weighs about 11 oz.

April 23, 2013, 09:14 PM
S&W 9mm Shield in the front pocket. Sig 9mm p228 IWB.

April 23, 2013, 09:32 PM
I normally have 2 EDC pistols, but at the moment I only have one - a Glock19.

Looking to get a single-stack pocket9 sometime soon for lighter summer carry. I'd love a 1911 or USP9 but they are still bigger than I'd like to carry on my person.

April 24, 2013, 12:21 PM
I carry at all times all year long and I have guns in my vehicle at all times also. I bought a Sig P238 to replace my Kel Tec P3AT as my smallest carry gun. I also have a Sig P938 and a P250 sub compact that I carry on me depending on my dress and time of year.183205

5 different carry guns from SA to DA/SA. None of my carry guns are DAO, just because I flat out do not like them.

May 6, 2013, 12:01 AM
I do not carry my several carry handguns on a rotating schedule. "EDC rotation" is a term that has crept into firearms forums, from knife forums. Some knife enthusiasts seem to have strict schedules, giving equal carry time to several knives. Firearms (and knives) do not have feelings, so there are no hurt feelings if one gets more carry time than another. I simply carry what seems best at that point in time, and routinely carry 2+ at the same time.

It is possible to have a decent skill level with each of several disparate weapons. I have been through multi-year phases of carrying only one "family" of handguns, and there have been times I carried disparate handgun designs, with nothing in common with each other. I now fall into the latter category, having settled upon several that seem to work well.

May 7, 2013, 09:06 PM
Generally three EDC's. M&P9c for summer, Glock19 for winter, and PM9 when pocket carry is required.

May 7, 2013, 10:23 PM
I have two or three (voted two), and they are as alike as you can get without being identical. All Glocks.
