Near Disasters & a SIG P210 Warning!

Don't do what I did. After shooting my SIG P210, and getting ready to clean it later that night, I accidentally picked up an empty Walther P1 magazine and inserted it in the SIG, thinking that it was a SIG magazine. Both matte finished, 8-round, with similar floorplates. As soon as I did it, I knew something was wrong. THEN, it didn't want to come out. Come on, what could hang up an almost identical mag? After careful disassembly of the gun AND mag, it was determined that a small, flat spring mounted on the right side of the grip frame under the grip had found the cartridge index hole (obviously spaced differently than a SIG magazine), and had managed to "lock" a detent on the spring INTO the mag hole. You could not see this, as it was inside the mag well too deep. Now, you would have to be inattentive, and have both the P1 and SIG P210 around to do this, but other fast disasters from other guns are also possible. I saw a friend have a bit of trouble when they experimented with a S&W Sigma slide on a Glock 9mm (or was it the other way around?). It went on, almost a perfect fit, but didn't come off so easy. Has anyone else had near disasters with magazines of the wrong type, or mixing parts, or other things to warn us about?

There is some, but not universal, compatibility between Beretta 92/96 frames and slides. In most cases you can put a .40 cal slide assembly on a 9mm frame, and vice versa, and I have done so with no reliability problems.

However, you have to be careful if you're going between a compact/Centurion slide assembly and a full-size frame. I had this combo lock up something awful and it required two men and a boy to get apart.

I would love to be able to have that problem. :)

Us working folks just have to be careful not to put a Gock 17/22 barrel into a G19/G23. :D

I'll admit I've been tempted to try my Sigma slide on a Glock frame (or vice versa).

I've heard one way will work and shoot, but don't remember which way!

Can you post a picture of both magazines so I can tell the difference since I'm always looking for p210 mags?

Actually, I just took a look at my p210 and the "pin" that caught on that Walther mag is the magazine disconnect, which bears in about the middle of the magazine. That is probably why Sig put the vertical string of magazine holes off-center. I would guess that Walther P1 mag holes are in the center of the magazine. Now that I think about it, Sharps, why don't you remove the disconnect and see how the P1 mags, then.
