S&W 360J Problems

I bought a 360J (Scandium framed .38 Special) yesterday. I gave it the usual revolver test in my local store, and it was fine. I took it home, cleaned it, put on the boot grips and tested it in some of my holsters (everything was still fine). I put in some snap-caps and proceeded to dry fire it maybe 100 times. The trigger felt very odd; the reset was smooth for about 3/4 of the travel, then the last 1/4 just jumped back into place. It still functioned well so I didn't think much of it. Then maybe 50 dry fires later, the trigger started to get very heavy, as in it would take probably 20-25lbs to get it to move. It would would only be this way for maybe the first 1/8th of an inch, then would function normally.

I took it back to the shop, they gave it to their gunsmith and he said come back tomorrow (it was late in the day). I go to Air Force BMT in 3 weeks so I don't have the time to send it into S&W.

Any thoughts on what the issue is?

Well I got an answer back quicker then I expected. Apparently the hammer block was cracked, so we're going to send it into S&W and I just had them fill in my parents address. So it looks like my mom is going to the proud new owner of a J-frame for the next year or so.

S&W will take care of it. Have fun at Lackland, and don't get rolled in San Antonio.

Yeah, S&W CS is excellent. You'll like the 360J, I've had mine a few years now and have been very happy with it.

I went through Lackland back in '82, I was an SP. My son went through in '08, he is a TACP. I understand BMT is longer and more 'military' these days. What job are you going in for?
Good luck in your endeavors, check in when you can and let us know how it's going.

Thank you for your service and be safe.

You might get your revolver back sooner than you think and possible be able to take it with you.

If not I'm sorry you won't have your revolver when you go to Basic.
(even though it's UA gear)
