Been looking for a smaller pistol for ccw. I carry a full size 1911 right now but looking for something that will conceal better for the summer. Was looking at the Lc9, P3AT etc. then I saw an XDs in 45. Another 45 would be handy as I already reload it.I have heard mostly good things about them but have no experience with any of the XD pistols. Anyone have any experience with one of these on conceal ability? thoughts in general?

Mine has been reliable, accurate and easy to carry. It can even be pocket carried but prefer owb.Did I say I love this gun. Could be the perfect ccw for me!:)

Can speak of the xds but I have had a xd9 since 2007. Never ever had a failure in thousands of rounds shot. The XD line is top notch

Had my XDs for about a year. Fired all types of ammo the unit with no problem EXCEPT RWS ammo. Zero problem with any HD or SD ammo. Easy to carry, little recoil. IMHO a great CCW firearm.

Have had one for a couple of months. It is my wifes EDC and it has been great so far. It was a little picky when shooting SWC ammo as far as seating depth and you cannot ride the slide or it will not feed. I also had a problem with what I thought were light primer srtikes but after changing primers and cleaning the striker which had a little grease in it. That has not been an issue. No problems with any factory ammo.

My XDs has been awful good. Haven't tried it with reloads. The comment about not riding the slide has proven true for my pistol.

Only about 300 rounds through it since I purchased it three months ago. But it has liked a wide variety. Everything from 230 grain ball to 185 grain hollow points. Everyone from Corbon to PPU.

I have two.
One a Tactical 9mm and a .45 Standard.

They are both the "cat's meow"!

I have an XDs 45 (didn't know the 9mm is out and what is a tactical XDs?)

They are a GREAT little 45's. I honestly have never shot such an accurate small gun. Pretty amazing. No stoppages yet, probably 500 rounds through mine in 5 or so sessions.

Friend just got one and he loves it. I carry either a pf9 or when rolling deep in the ghetto a full size m&p9. With that said I find the recoil more "push" then snap, and obviously lighter and thinner then my m&p. I plan on selling my pf9 because to be honest I suck with it (not the gun). The top two on my list are a S&W shield, or an XDS. I recommend you buy it, you'll love it.

IMO, the XDs is the best semiauto carry option out there right now.

It packs a wallup, is accurate, with the extended mag it carries just as much ammo as a 1911 , it is very fast to get on target, and the slim nature of the gun makes it extremely easy to carry. I have carried mine IWB with nothing over it but a form fitting athletic shirt, and it hardly printed at all (with the short mag).

I wrote a relatively detailed review awhile ago when I got mine, and it has a few updates and suggestions for carry.

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=685730

Honestly, if someone was looking for "the one handgun to do it all" as in CC, OC, and HD, the XDs would be my suggestion, with the stipulation that you pick up an extended magazine as well for HD and OC. It is truely a superb product. I wish they would come out with a 6 round magazine. That would be absolutely perfect for CC as the pinky would not be hanging out there, and you'd gain an extra round.

I picked up a XD-S earlier this year and have been very satisfied with its performance. I do not recall having any auto-loader that will digest such a wide variety of bullet designs and powder charges. Mine has ran 100% (except for one trip to the range with a reduced power striker spring which no longer is in the XD-S) with everything I have put in it....with velocities from as low as 621 FPS to a high of 851 FPS. (that equates to 40 year old SWC target loads and current carry ammo).

You are welcome to browse my XD-S review (http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/xds/xds45-1.htm) which includes chronograph results, a review of the PRP spring kit (less than impressive in my opinion), and other items. Additional chrono results are included in the PRP XD-S spring kit review (http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/xds/xds45-5.htm).

I love mine, just haven't found a good holster for open carry yet.

I'm hoping to see the holster I ordered for my XD-S within the next 4 weeks (never know how long it will take when they aren't bought off the shelf). Anyway, the design looks good and is similar to one that I currently use for my PM9. I ordered the Elemental model (should look something like then pic below). I'll add the info to my review on my site once I have it in hand. The company is Zlogonje Gunleathers (http://www.zlogonje.com/OWB.php).

can't say anything about the XDs, but a couple buddies have 6 varieties of XD and XDM between them. all have been great shooters and reliable. I see no reason to believe that the XDs would be any different.

My XDs has been 100%. It replaced several of my other carry guns as my EDC.
I echo what 460Kodiak posted. Springfield hit a home run with this one.

Since I bought my XDs it seems sales have exploded as it is named THE gun of the year.

I was a HUGE Glock 23 carry fan - for over 15 years.

Now I find the lighter weight AND the even easier concealment of the XDs make it my daily gun.

I did add the finger extensions to the 5 round mag,and I carry the 2 7-round mags as spare and took off the silly plastic housing extensions that come on it,makes then easier to conceal and carry in Ritchie Leather mag pouches.

I often carry it in a Ritchie CQQR holster as that is the most comfortable way --- so far.

Well I stopped and picked up an XDs Monday night. They only had one left which was the display one, but it was in perfect shape so it wasn't a big deal. Cost $550 which was a lot less than at another store I was looking at so I was pretty happy. I put about 60 rounds through it yesterday and today. Didn't have any problems except for one round that didn't get the primer hit for some reason. For a small gun it isn't bad to shoot except for hotter loads which you sure can feel. Think ill be sticking with lighter loads. I can get my whole hand on the grip without any problems, and it is nice and grippy without being too rough. It fits my hand pretty good, I might try the smaller back strap that it came with and see how it feels anyways. The sights work good and this is the first gun I've shot with a fiber optic sight and I really like it. Isn't as accurate as my 1911, but I think that's more me than the gun. I The trigger is fairly heavy, but nothing I can't live with and get used to. I sure don't think it's a bad thing as this is a ccw gun I don't mind a little heavier trigger.

I haven't been able to decide what holster to get for it so I've been using the factory one for now. While it makes the gun hard to conceal, it's comfortable and holds it secure. It should work until I find a good iwb then ill still probably use it if I decide to open carry. When I was carrying my 1911 before this I didn't have any problems concealing it or carrying it after i got a good belt and holster, but the XDs is much better. I can't hardly feel its there so It'll be alot more comfortable and be easier to hide when I don't have to wear a jacket all the time. Overall I'm very pleased with it and I can see why they are so popular. Easy to conceal and still easy to shoot while still packing a punch.
Any one have a good holster to recommend?

For all you XDs owners out there, you need to try Talon Grips wraparound grip. I have one in the rubber texture (don't want to cut through my pockets with the granulate texture) and it made a big difference in how I was able to hang on to my XDs. It's $15, ships free and even comes with an alcohol pad so you don't gotta pick one of those up.
Get 'em here. (http://talongungrips.com/Talon-Grips-For-Springfield-Springfield.htm)

My XDs is up to 450 rounds now, without any failures to fire or feed. It has failed to lock the slide back a few times but that can likely be attributed to the fool behind the gun.

Why yes, yes I do. The below picture is of my carry rig. It was made by Hidden Hybrid Holsters. It is a great product and is holding up very well. I forget the gun is IWB to be honest. I paid $65 after shipping.

Notes: There are belt loop cut so you could use it OWB also. Price is great. The mag release is covered in this rig. If you are thinking about adding a laser, I believe Cross Breed holsters has a better option. Cant and carry depth can be changed by lowering or raising the clips. I found mine to need no adjustment though. I am extremelly satisfied with the gun, and the holster. It is essentially my perfect carry gun set up.

That holster looks really nice and I was going to order one to try out but there's no way a 6 to 8 week lead time works for me.
I put another 50 rounds through it today with no problems but most of my shots were around a foot low. Looks like I'm jerking the trigger a little too much so Ill be doing a lot of dry fire practice for a while. Overall still love the gun though just need a little more practice with it

I want an XDs, but I have a 4.5" XDm in.45ACP. The pistol is simply outstanding. I've been very happy with the purchase, which is to say I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Springfield line of XD pistols. Top quality firearms and a pleasure to shoot.

+1. I normally try to buy USA made but I'm not going to turn down a gun that's exactly what I'm looking for because of where its from.

Is the new XDS 9mm a striker fired pistol?
Yes it is Just like all the other XD pistols

I've since fired a few more rounds through it without any problems. Today I really made concentrated on how I was pulling the trigger and I was actually hitting what I was aiming at. Granted it was only at 10 yards but still an improvement over last time. Guess I'm just used to a nice 1911 trigger

I bought a XD 40 Tactical when they were first being sold. I loved it, but traded for the XD45 tactical when they were first available. This fall, I traded the tactical 45 for the XDm 45 Competition and then bought the XDs...these are all excellent guns that do their job over and over. Reliable, dependable, accurate,...what more could you want for the price???!!!

I Just installed the green fiber optic in the front sight, as it glowed much brighter before I installed it. When I got it in however it was very dim and the green didn't end up having much color. Looked very light and almost clear. So I went back to the red even though it doesn't glow really bright at least it has some color to it you can pick up. A lot of people seem to like green but I guess it isn't for everyone. As for the gun I only put a few more rounds through it still with no problems. Really like it. Also picked up a holster and have to say it carries great. Very thin and with a thin holster I don't hardly know it's there.

I've had mine now for about 6 months and around 500 rounds thru it. Today I decided to change out the red fiber optic to the supplied green that came with the gun. What a PITA !! The green fiber was to thick and I had to drill out the holes to make it fit. A 5 minute job turned into a hour! I snapped 3 drill bits in the process. All's well now and the green fiber is a lot easier to pick up compared to the red.

Got mine back last week and I'm very satisfied with the "upgrade." Trigger was a little stiff at first, but lightened up and smoothed out from dry firing with a snap cap and 170 live rounds.

I love my XDs .45! IMO it is the perfect CCW for me. I just got it back a week ago after having the recall performed on it. I pocket carry it in a Desantis Nemesis holster, and in the colder months, carry it IWB in a Galco holster.

I have shot about 350 rounds through mine so far, and it had been reliable and accurate. I am heading to the range next Tuesday to fire 200 rounds of fmj and 40 rounds of Barnes TacXPD 185gr +P jhp(my carry round) through it to make sure it is still reliable post recall.

I added a set of Ameriglo night sights to my XDs. The front is a green dot, the rear is a yellow dot operator sight. I liked this configuration so much that I just ordered two sets of green/yellow Meprolights for my XD-9 and XDm .45.

Here are a couple of pics of my XDs .45 with the new Ameriglo night sights.
