"Ya know what sucks?"

April 21, 2013, 06:08 PM
It's April 21 and I still have to dig through fresh and not so fresh snow to find my brass. Numb fingers and my nose running faster than I can lick it. At least it keeps some of the riff-raff from wanting to live here. This winter is sure getting old:barf:

But hey, we have no AWBs, Magazine capacity limits and we do have both open carry and Shall Issue CCW, so I gues I should keep my complaints to a minimum.:D

Ever heard of a brass catcher?

April 21, 2013, 06:19 PM
or a Kleenex?????:scrutiny:

April 21, 2013, 06:23 PM
Or Alabama?

We don't have that problem down here but about once every 5-10 years. Then we shut the whole state down.

Just another beautiful day here in Sunny Southern Arizona.

April 21, 2013, 06:47 PM
Wa Wa Wa :) A bad day at the range beats a good day doing something else.

Spread out a large tarp before shooting.

"Ya know what (also) sucks?"
when people post about a geographic location and the weather there, then talk about the pros and cons of living "here," but don't say where that place is. Sort of makes for a difficult to understand post. I don't know what a cheddar curtain is... Wisconsin?

* Sighs and breathes in the fresh open 82 degree Florida air.

Post#2: Yes, I have brass catchers for my rifles, both the flimsly Caldwell bag with velcro and a good one I fabricated that hooks solidly over the upper. I haven't been able to find a good one or invent one yet for my compact 1911.

Post #3: Whine now complete. Forgive me.

Post #4: I have relocated a number of times and my plan has always been to end up in the mid-South to South for retirement. Ironically, I have learned that God has a sense of humor and I may have my plans, but my career path has caused each of my relocations to be further North.

Post #7: Yes I have thought of the tarp idea, but fooling around in the wind with it and the fact that my 1911 seems to spread it's brass over a half acre or so I passed.

Post #8: Yes, just not too witty way of describing the northwoods of Wisconsin.

There: Rant complete and the whining will now cease. Hope I have brought a ray of sunshine into your lives. :neener:

My Wisconsin raised wife really likes the "cheddar curtain" reference.

In my experience, God does, indeed, have a sense of humor. At least as concerns the weather. Many of the nasty weather records for northern Virginia have occurred since we moved here. I keep waiting for news about glaciers in the Blue Ridge.

As far as the brass is concerned, one word: revolvers! ;)

You know you'd rather live no place else. :P

WI is such a beautiful state, and most of the folks there are very warm and welcoming. There's so many small and medium size towns that just feel like "home" and I've never lived there. We'll mail you a shop towel for your nose. :D

April 21, 2013, 08:37 PM
It's hit 95 here a few times already!

April 21, 2013, 08:40 PM
72 today in TN. I had to work today though. Tomorrow is open might give my AR a little work out.

April 21, 2013, 08:44 PM
Don't see why you are complaining at least you have ammo to shoot.:D Betcha you complain the first week of 85 degree weather this summer too.:neener: I usually wait till the local glacier thaw and go prospecting for brass. Bring it home by the 5 gal bucket for a bit.

Or Alabama?

We don't have that problem down here but about once every 5-10 years. Then we shut the whole state down.Dang near. :)

The flowers and trees are all blooming around here. :D

But in August, when it's 100+ here, you'll be the one laughing. :o

April 21, 2013, 09:31 PM
It'll be over a 100 here around june. I've seen it hit 105 here in may. I don't what's worse constant heat or constant cold! It was a nice breezy 85 today and I got a sunburn working cattle. It was 45 just 4 days ago. Texas weather...it's as unpredictable as a new bride.

Yes, no snow here.

I only wish we could have had a winter. Sweated most of deer season. Only broke ice twice during duck season. But I sure love Oklahoma. The only other place I'd rather live is......heaven.

April 22, 2013, 06:02 AM
I'm with BigBore44 on OK. Mild winters for the most part. Summers are better here than some I have been in. Lot of good fishing lakes. Plenty of public hunting areas. Now if I could only get allowed to hog hunt near Sailboat Bridge I would be set.

April 22, 2013, 04:51 PM
We get the worst of it every season. The indoor ranges are packed in winter, too hot in the summer, and the closest public outdoor range is an hour and a half from me.

April 22, 2013, 05:08 PM
Guessing your by the up? How are the pastys doing? Heard they got a decent dump the other day.

April 22, 2013, 05:39 PM
45 degrees today in Soldotna, Alaska, sunny, and wouldn't trade it for anywhere else. :neener:

I was raised near Eagle River, WI. Moved to Florida in '96. I've discovered that Wisconsin is a great place to be from.

April 22, 2013, 07:39 PM
While working in February on a nice balmy 92 degree day in central Florida I once asked myself why on earth our ancestors decided to move to the middle of this Godforsaken swamp.
When I got to my hotel I turned on the TV and saw a news report about Cleveland and I had my answer.

Hot is miserable but I will bear it anytime over cold and snow.

April 22, 2013, 07:45 PM
Already mowed the lawn twice this year, screwy weather, dry fall, hot and wet in November & December cold weather in March 2 weeks ago it was in the upper 80's, 2 days ago there was a light frost, got in to the 70's today. Must be that global warning stuff. Well thats the report from Auburn, Alabama, we don't have much snow but I'll send you some pollen if you want it.

Detroit. So winter's not nearly as bad as it could be, but we make up for with the idiot drivers

Many of the WI riffraff moved years ago to the Minneapolis St. Paul area.
Most of the residents there are happy to subsidize hordes of welfare recipients, and with no restrictions.

Some guys in your state buried several well-wrapped SKS rifles plus ammo underground on remote land, and took a survey of how many people believed that they should dig up the rifles in order to check them.
