Taser anyone?

My wife has a taser C2 that she carries in her purse. It has a laser sight and will shoot up to 15 ft. I can't get her to shoot a gun so I figure this is better than pepper spray. Anyone one else out there use a taser? You don't have to worry about killing someone when using it.

really
how long does it take to reload if missed...
15" is WELL within blade attack range
and unlike pepper spray, there's no second chance

And has she read the instructions,
hit them, drop the tazer, RUN....

I plan on picking one up for a trip out west where my CCW doesn't reciprocate and they frown upon knives. It's not my ideal choice, but if the laws of the land are going to disarm me, then I might as well pack something to defend myself with.

They have their place, but that place is when a more serious self defense item can't be brought into play. I think they're great for LEOs. It allows a police officer to control an escalating situation without having to use deadly force or potentially be injured.

For civilians, though, I dunno. Yeah, if someone is trying to mug me, I would rather have 7 rounds of .45acp than one shot of TASER barbs. Pacification isn't my job. Surviving the situation is.

As a police officer, we use the Taser to "control people who are out of control". We do not normally think of them as a self-defense item.
Also, we have back-up weapons to use if the device fails (we've had a couple of such incidents) and usually other officers as well.

As I understand it, the civilian model has a longer range than the police model, and also "cycles" for 30 seconds... Sufficient time to get away. You just leave the device there... Which is somewhat expensive.
As noted, it's a one-shot deal... I wouldn't be too wild about using one.

Bikewer, Fiv3r, and Shadow 7D have pretty much summarized the issues around Tasers nicely. Better than nothing, but by itself something that needs to be applied in a very narrow set of circumstances for most civilians.

They provide a false sense of security for most people and their spouses since the thing sitting in the bottom of a purse isn't really able to be reached in most truly threatening situations. IF she carries it in her hand when she goes to/from the car AND she employes some advance situational awareness by checking around the car and in it before putting keys to door she might be putting it to some use, but...

what if there is 2 of the BG's?
