Have you ever left your bolt locked open?

When not shooting, I open the safe and check on my guns about once or twice a week(as any good parent would). For the second time I have found my Ar with the action locked open the way it after firing the last round. I always check the chamber when I inspect them to insure that somehow it wasn't loaded. I must have accidently left the action locked open and then I left for about a week. Is this going to hurt the function of the gun because the spring was compressed like that? I know it is kind of a nit-picky question, but I am just curious.
Thanks
Ss:)

Only if you left it like that for a few years......:D
Being in the Marine Corps I have seen these rifles take quite abit of abuse and they still function.
Don't worry about having the bolt locked open for a few days.

if its anything like having an air rifle spring cocked then it will be actually better for it as uncocked there is more tension pulling spring apart than , compressing it in. however im only going by knowlage of leaving air rifle cocked.

The AR buffer spring will take being compressed for many years without damage. And then you're looking at about $8 for a new one, no big deal.
I'd be more concerned with putting the rifle away without cleaning it. NOW DROP AND GIVE ME TWENTY PUSHUPS, TROOP. :D
You probably didn't separate the receiver halves with the bolt back like that, so what kind of cleaning did you do?

sasnofear, that's an interesting view on how to store an air rifle. I put mine away cocked, because I run a patch through when I'm done, then don't want to pull the trigger on an empty chamber.
I think the book says it's bad to fire the gun empty. I always figured I was harming something by leaving it cocked.

I've found one of my ARs locked back while in my safe, and I swear I had closed the bolt and ejection port. It freaked me out, cause it was the one my parents didnt know about, so I thought maybe my dad found my spare safe key (my parents think I have one AR, and no other black rifles).

I wouldn't worry about it. Not only was your bolt locked back, but the hammer spring was tensioned. :D
I'm surprised the bolt didn't slam closed on you when you put it in storage. Sometimes it only takes a light tap on the buttstock to trip the bolt release.
