Questions about LC9

I just upgraded my pocket pistol from a P64 to an LC9. I'm left handed and the safety is very stiff. Is it safe to carry the LC9 with a round chambered and the safety off?

What ammo would you recommend from the shorter barrel?

Thanks

I don't use safety myself normally; but I have a pocket holster that covers the entire trigger guard. That gives me the sense of safety I want.

I use cor-bon hollow points in mine. I'm not a load expert though, I just use factory loads for now. Haven't really gotten into reloading... Yet.

Yes, it is safe to carry the LC9 with the safety off and a chambered round. My Kel-Tec PF9, similar in size and weight, also has a double-action trigger mechanism, and has no safety.

It takes a deliberate, firm, rearward pull of the trigger to set off a double-action firearm from a "hammer-at-rest" (or "striker-at-rest") mode.

It is safe to carry the P-64 with the safety off as well (assuming the hammer is "at rest".)

My PF9 is currently loaded with basic Remington-UMC 115-grain JHP ammunition. This ammunition functions well in my gun, and has been (historically, at least!) readily both available and affordable locally. I feel that I would get some enhanced ballistic performance with a 124-grain load, which I think is about what my gun is sighted for (it shoots low with lighter ammo.) However, I have not run across any that is affordable and available enough for me to proof its function (typically, I require a hundred rounds to proof. If I have a failure, I require a hundred rounds of flawless function beyond that failure.)

I agree with the previous two members. I have a Nemesis pocket holster that covers the trigger guard well and keep one chambered with safety off.

NOTE: I do position the holstered gun in the pocket with safety on and switch the safety off once in place. Just my preference.

Want to chime in as a P11 owner. My wife carries it w/C.O.P 115+p JHP. 10+1 w/a DAT and feels completely confident regarding accidental discharge. The trigger is 8.5 lbs, but feels more stiff than that. She doesn't, however carry it in her purse, but rather in an externally clipped holster in the small of her back. The clip is on the outside and the gun/holster rides to the inside. She covers it w/oversized T-shirts, blouses, etc. Btw, she's left handed as well and loves her P11...which used to be mine. :p

5'4" 112 lbs. Ex-military and got a 92 out of 100 on her range test for CC. When deciding where to carry she said her purse was the last place she would put her CC as it's the first thing a perp usually goes for.

Sure it is. In fact, if I had one that is how I would carry it. It is still "'drop'-safe," i.e., it can't fire if dropped, struck, thrown or whatever. It can't fire unless you pull the trigger, and if you pull that trigger when you weren't supposed to, it's your fault.

Yep. Although I wouldn't recommend for SIG P238 or P938. Pesky single action triggers and all.:neener:
