First range trip with my suppressors

Took my cans to the range today after picking them up last Friday. I didn't have a lot of time but I was going crazy wanting to try thiem out! I got asked by the RSO right off the bat if I had the proper paperwork for them; I told him yes, copies were in my truck and my range bag. He didn't ask to see them he just said, " I don't want you to get in trouble". I can appreciate that, seemed like a nice enough fellow.

I started of with the DPMS LR 308 AP4 with the Thunderbeast 30P1. Nice nd quiet but with a significant drop in POI compared to no can. I didn't mind adjusting since I don't plan on shotting it without the can anymore. Groups were decent but I may need to work on the loads a little to tune them in with the can, it is efintely good enough to take a pig at 200 yards as is but I want it lie it was without the can.

Next was the Liberty Toech QA on a High Standard M-4gery and a Dreadnaught industries carbine, both in 5.56. These guns also had a small POI shift with the suppressor but shot bery well once adjusted. I was runninf a 4x32 ACOG on the M-4 and a Leupold 4.5-14x40mm on the carbine. I got noce tight groups out of both guns at 100 yars.

I shifted over to the pistol range to try the 45 Osprey and the SWR Specter II
.22 can. Both are awesome and the .22 can was super quiet. I have been giggly all evening.

This was a 181 day wait from check cashed to stamps in hand. I guess this was pretty good for todays standards.

Wow! I'm jealous now. I could barely afford the ONE suppressor I own.....

Glad you got 'em, I wish I'd had one 30 yrs ago--most fun gun-related expenditure I've made to date.

Im interested to know how much POI shift the Spectre II causes. I have a SS Sparrow, and there is no POI shift that I can tell. Im in the market for a second rimfire suppressor, and am trying to decide if I just want another Sparrow, or something different. I shoot with my daughter, and my wife, and would like a second suppressor so we both can shoot at the same time, without passing the suppressor back and forth.

It sure is amazing how a good suppressor changes things. I havent had hearing protection in my range bag for a while now.

Its not the can, its the interaction of the can, its fit to the firearm (concentricity), and any "barrel harmonics".

If you are happy with the Sparrow on all your hosts I don't really see an upside to trying a different brand, odds are it will be much harder to clean, even if significantly lower priced. In your shoes, I just got another Sparrow for my wife so we can shoot together, got another 9mm can coming for her as well.

You will see lots of claims that concentericity is what determines POA/POI shift, but I have one AR with a concentricity check that left me debating if I should even try it with the can, that showed no significant shift, whereas an AK that was as perfectly concentric as I could measure (rare for an AK) has enough shift to be more trouble than its worth (AKs are mechanically noisy and very over gassed, thus IMHO do not make great host platforms).

I havent had hearing protection in my range bag for a while now.

The ringing of the steel plates we shoot is loud enough that we put the earpro back on after a few minutes.

I didn't notice any POI shift on the pistol. I have not had a chance to get out and check my .22 rifles, I am looking forward to rying it out on my 10/22 and Marlin model 81TS.

Put about 50 rounds through the 1022 this afternoon and did see about a 1 3/4" shift in POI but a lot of that was from the change in ammo from CCI high velocity to Remington subsionic ammo and not the suppressor. I adjusted 7 clicks up and 2 clicks right, from there on she was putting them on top of each other in the bull at 50 yards.

Had my Guardian 22 to the range this weekend on a 10/22 and a Savage 93 (threaded by my gunsmith). I detected no difference in POI with either rifle compared to the flash hider and muzzle brake respectively. The Savage is .22 wmr.

I stayed on the 50 yard range as I had a bunch of lever rifles with iron sights to play with, all rim fire. Geez it was a fun day :)
