Square used to permit swiped transactions for firearms, just no internet/keyed payments for them. No more as of today: https://squareup.com/legal/seller-agreement

Yeah, just read the notice myself. Guess I need to find another processor before the next gun show.

Another company goes political on us. :cuss:

I wonder if these companys k ow the demographics of those in the gun hobby. Do they not understand that this is an expensive hobby. That we support those who support us.

Remember...don't just leave. Say good bye and tell them why the change is being made. Be vocal about it.

Yeah PayPal is apparently just like that....snicker...snicker.

Withdraw early and often people, that's the operative rule (is not meant to constitute legal advice).

From Reddit

I am a manager for First Data. The processor of Square, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Paypal, etc.... The reason why that happens is because Square (along with some other merchant services) do not offer PCI compliance. Needed for your protection (as a merchant) from chargebacks and disputes. I give my small gun shops on a similar phone swiper (or terminal of any kind) at a rate of 1.75% (compared to Square's 2.75% and Paypal's ~3.50%) plus my PCI compliance fee of $9.95. A small price to pay to keep a legitimate business going the way it should. And your insurance that we can protect you from illegitimate chargebacks.

So the purchases we make are not legitimate?

What gets me is the hypocrisy.

They can do this and the government stands by...

Yet a small privately owned bakery in Oregon refuses to make a cake for a gay couple, and the state sues them.

Amerika.

If you are in the firearms (or related) business and run into this situation, contact:

National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF)
Flintlock Ridge Office Center
11 Mile Hill Road
Newtown, CT 06470-2359

(203) 426-1320

They can provide you with the names of several card processors that would be delighted to get your business.
