Reaching The Supply Event Horizon (poll)

It dawned on me today as I swept through four different local gun stores on my way back from the range. I now have more ammo, more powder, more primers, more components, and in some cases even more firearms than the average local gun store.

This has to represent some kind of ouroborus point or event horizon, and I've never seen it happen. Certainly not on this scale. And I wonder what long-term effect this kind of shift is going to have on the market. I mean *I* am now equipped to supply a store better than an actual store. Are we going to see a rise in swap meets? Or are people just going to hoard more and more?

Maybe all of your cargo puddle jumpers are augering in these days, but here in New England the firearms and ammo tipping point is far from occurring.

I would be considered a hoarder by some I guess, but the LGS in these parts have everything including 22. That considering I voted they are more well stocked than me.

My LGS has everything including all brands of 22LR so I am not better stocked than they are.

Can't find .22lr to save my life, Guns seem to be at almost pre panick supply levels, though its still difficult if you're looking for something specific. 9mm is still pretty tight too, every now and then I find either the super cheap steel cased stuff or the super expensive defensive loads.

edit: I don't reload so I haven't monitored the other items very closely.

Definitely better stocked with handgun and rimfire ammo than several local gunshops and two area Walmarts. Probably have a bit more rifle ammo in .223 and 7.63X39 than those places as well.

I definitely have more ammo than the Wal-Mart (8-10 boxes?).

I think in 2 months, things will turn around. Eventually, those who are stocking up, will be stocked and those who are profiteering will no longer turn a profit as few will pay inflated prices.

The shelves at the LGS are as bare as they were the last time they painted! Last summer they were out of shelf space to the point that on some items they only had a sample box showing and went to the store room to fill an order. Now, if it's NOT on the shelf you have to ask and if they have it they go to the store room to fill your order.

I'm thinking that it'll be this way until at least next summer...or longer.

I, ahem, was supplying a lgs with some of my ammunition stores on condition that they replace it when things calmed down a bit and they could actually purchase and have ammo delivered.

I have more of everything than the LGS but I won't give them anything so they can scalp the price on it.

I have given over 5,000 rounds of free .223, 38 Special, 9mm, 22 LR, 32 ACP, .380, 12 ga, etc, to friends.

When the supply returns to normal we are going to have a talk about them building their own stock.

I do have more ammo than the wallywerlds from Topeka to Lawrence do.
The LGS in North Topeka was way behind me last time I was there too.
Reloading components are hard to find around here too but I've been stocked up since the 90's.
"Be Prepared" was about the only thing I remember from being, briefly, in the Boy Scouts but I remember it good.;)

Amazing observation. I am way better stocked than all 3 walmarts combined but slightly behind (loaded rounds only) than 2 gun stores. Nobody can touch me on reloading components and I now have "reloading parties" where a bunch learn reloading simultaneously. Had to make up a loading cheat sheet

I too have more than the local LGS, with regards to pistol ammo, and about dead even on rifle ammo. However they still cant get me the Ruger Hunter I have been looking for awhile now.:banghead:
And the LGS are still asking panic prices.

I have been well prepared for many many years it seems. If I fire my .22 ammo at the rate of 1 550 value pack a month I should run out somewhere in 2089. And the reloading components I keep track of by 5 GAL bucket quantities. There are several LGS that have a smaller selection of all types of firearms than I have and they willingly agree that is the case.:scrutiny: So you see that many of my acquaintances are mad at me that I will not sell them any reloaded ammo even after explaining why. Me I keep trying to teach each one to take the effort to reload unfortunately.:uhoh:

The local RBF (Rude Bearded Fool) at the LGS now wants to trade a NIB Ruger 1911 for some 7.62 factory match loads. Sure is good payback for all his prior BS!

A few weeks ago, I'd have checked all the "I've got more...." boxes. Things are settling down around here, though. There are once more racks of black guns, shelves of ammo, even powder is making a comeback. Only things still a bit tight are .22 LR, jacketed bullets (cast have been available right along,) and primers. There are primers to be had, but not a full range.

as scary as it sounds, while i have more reloading components than all the gun stores around here combined, it's not so much hoarding as just buying in bulk for economic pricing, and represents maybe a 2 year supply at my current rate of shooting

they have WAY more firearms than I do, if you're counting by weight. by $ amount, it's a little more even
