Ok here goes...... I bought new grips for my Springfield Mil Spec but I'm having trouble removing the old ones......(flame away) Is there a clip of some sorts holding the plastic grips on?

Howdy Steve. Welcome in. No such thing as a dumb question...Dumb is
folks too stubborn to ask a question when they don't know...

Nope. They're just a tight fit over the bushing. Take the magazine out and pop'em off from the inside. Your finger or thumb will probably do, but you might need to use a piece of wood or a small screwdriver handle.
They should come right off.

Luck!

Stevedag,
Welcome to THR. I seriously doubt you could get any better info on the 1911 than what you got from tuner. the man is THE most knowledgeable person I have ever encountered on the workings of the 1911 .45 pistol.
His knowledge has helped countless people on this forum, including myself.

I'm sure you will get a lot of enjoyment from your mil-spec. They're a great weapon, and you can't complain about the price. Watch out though, they can become an addiction. I have three mil-specs, and i'm looking at a stainless mil-spec:uhoh: "Oh Lord, help me, i'm outta control:D

good luck, and be safe

Thanks for the good words silent one..Truth is, I'm a troubleshooter and a
repairman....a salvager of worn-out pistols, and fairly adept at turnin' a sow's ear into a denim purse. Rough, but serviceable. I ain't in the same league with Jim Keenan and...I suspect...Old Fuff. They're just too classy to bust my chops out here.:D

Be of good cheer and mindful of your six!

Tuner,
No thanks necessary. It's the people like myself, and others on THR who should be thanking you. Not many people would devote their time and expertise to helping others as you do. I have read many threads on this forum, and you are always there, giving expert solutions to every problem imaginable. At any rate," THANK YOU". I for one appreciate what you do.

good luck, and be safe.
