After searching the web there are some really nice options out there. Really nice. But pricey as well. The lower priced ones seem to be out of stock, and I don't have 3 bills I want to spend on a stand right now.

So, I started looking through my junk (I am a die hard scrounger), and came up with some parts I thought I could build a stand with. A sliding bracket that I forgot what it came off of, an aluminum L bracket, an IV pole base, some round metal rod from a chair, the odd washer and bolt, a adjustment knob from something, and my free labor.

I cut the L bracket to the length I needed on each side, drilled the appropriate holes, made a slot to adjust up and down tilt, cut two legs off the IV pole brace, made three "legs" to go in place of the wheels for the base, and bingo, a spotting scope stand. All I lack is a lead counter balance mounted on the left side of the base, but it is pretty doggone steady as it is.

Not bad for an amateur and scrounged parts. :)

And the almost finished product. Have to add some counter weight. Very steady as is though. :)

Great job on that home made stand. IV poles will start disappearing from hospitals all around the country!! I'm not overly happy with my set up for prone shooting. I have a Leupold Mark 4 spotting scope (40x) and use it with an Induro A012 bipod and Giottos MH-1000 head. It's not ideal but it's not so terrible that I want to invest in something better.

Very shrewd and ingenious way to make a stand. Kudos!

What I'm seeing is half inch pipe of different sizes for the base and pole. Just hit up your local plumber supply house for threaded pipe and end caps.
