I have a possible trade with someone. I havent met the person yet so just getting a heads up . I was researching and many had to changed their hammer springs down to 19 lbs to lighten the DA pull. And the many who advise to change the recoil spring to 17 lb and extra power mag springs from Wolff.

The person said the gun is made in 1982 so that makes it only shoot FMJs. If i intend to carry this for SD, what brand s of JHP are known to feed just fine , the one with a tapered cone? One guy at Youtube mentioned it fed fine using 115 hollowpoints .

Just a guess, but I would bet the Federal "Classic" 115-gr. JHP (the "old-school," non-HydraShok load popularly called the "9BP") ought to feed in it.

I ordered a box of Prvi Partizan 147 gr JHP from Aims back before Sandy Hook happened. I just checked it now and the bullet looks tapered. I ll hope this will work. I also have a box of premium Gold Dot 124 gr JHP and its wider .

The PMC brand 115 gr JHP looks tapered as well.

I have a P6 made in the early 80's and it fees hollow points just fine; I've fed it quite a number of different ones. Though I've run out now, I used to have a box of assorted HP ammunition from my carry guns from when I decided I had carried it long enough and ought to change it. I used it to test various guns (mixing it in with FMJ ammunition).

The classic Federal 115 gr JHP plus P 9BP is no slouch.

I got one from 83 and has never malfunctioned with any ammo. Might be the ammo your using.

I had a 6/81 sample that fed JHP just fine, at the time I carried Federal Hydra-Shoks or Gold Dots. It would also feed empty cases!

With earlier P6 feeding hollow points is hit or miss. There are folks who can modify the ramp. I use PowrBall so the issue for me is irrelevant. I would think that bullet profiles like the Golden Saber should work well.

As to changing the hammer spring, I switched to a standard 225 spring and it has been a big improvement, considerably lighter. I also swapped out the standard plain no dot front sight for a tritium one to aid in lower light conditions.

I have a 6/86 P6 that wouldnt feed ANY hollowpoints. Even sent the barrel to Customized Creations from a ramp polish...helped but didnt cure the problem. Wound up buying a new barrel.

I paid $325.00 for mine back before the prices went nuts. People hated the 8rd. mags, just carry several.
