So, my most recent "guy's weekend out" involved a trip to a nearby indoor range. I shot my SIG 228 and a .32 Colt 1903 that belongs to my dad. My groupings are improving with practice, at 30 feet or so the majority are in about a 5 inch circle. Not tack driving by any means but adequate and improving. (third time out with the SIG, first time with the Colt). I think though, that quality pistols will always be more accurate than me.
I rented the CZ .45 and now I understand the allure of the .45 ACP. That is a big assed bullet! The recoil didn't seem severe to me or even much more than the 9mm. The CZ was a nice feeling weapon and it now has me thinking the route to a .22 might just be the CZ 75 and Kadet conversion kit (two guns for the price of one!)
The good part of the story is there was a guy there with a souped up full auto TEC 11 (or something). We all strike up a conversation about the trials and tribulations of full auto ownership and he says, "you guys want to shoot a couple of magazines?" Upon picking our jaws up off the floor we were all for it. It was some big fun. 30 rounds of 9mm in 4 quick bursts and we shredded the target.
More discussions about his "gun room", "other automatics", 20,000+ rounds (buys by the case). When Sarah Brady has nightmares, I'm pretty sure this guy is in them.
In fact though, far from being intimidating, Mr. FullAuto was very soft spoken and friendly, clearly knew his stuff and was willing to let a couple of near novice's (me anyways) fire his weapon.
Cool
One more sidebar comment; when my wife was commenting to one of her friends about my upcoming guys weekend and "doing guy stuff" she was asked ... "playing golf?"
"No, shooting guns"
Oh, sez her friend.
