.223 seems to be coming more available.

Is .243 drying up?

I was in the local Bass Pro two weeks ago, and .243 was one of the few rifle calibers they had in stock. It was $1.50-2.00 per round, but at least they did have it. They had no .223, 7.62x39, or .308.

Here in the Cleveland, Ohio area the 243 Winchester has been one of those cartridges readily available, including the local Wal-Marts. The average cost is about a buck a round depending on bullet type and manufacturer. Also I am seeing plenty of 243 Winchester available online.

.243 is one the few calibers left at my local true value hardware store, their ammo supply program shut down back in maybe about year 2003. PM me if you want their phone number.

I am seeing 243 but not in the quantity I usually see.
What I am not seeing is soft point 308 and zero 30-30.

What would anyone want .243 for? It doesn't fit in an AR, AK, Saiga 12, 30rnd mag. I mean you can only load 3 or 4 at a time and kill a whitetail, antelope, yote, cougar, bobcat, prairie dog at ranges farther than you can see with little to no recoil. Best hunting cartridge for anything smaller than an elk out there IMO. It was my first hunting rifle cartridge and will be all 3 of my kids first cartridge too. Keep it and the available supply a secret. :D

Not as far as I can tell. In fact, .243 ammo is available and in large quantities everywhere I go.

It's there but not everywhere. .270 is the one that nobody seems to want. I suppose there's nothing in Indiana you can hunt with it and nothing in Indiana you'd care to shoot with it (varmints).
