I think it's a Beretta.

It doesn't look like a Beretta to me. The grip is too blocky and it has what looks like a grip safety.
I wish I had a better picture. :uhoh:

I saw the cover in a store and I thought it was a shot gun, sort of a door breaching weapon. I could be wrong. Patrick

Okay, here's a better picture. I scanned the image directly from the cover.
It even looks like a high brass shotgun shell in the holster. Patrick

Maybe some kind of flare pistol?
I saw the 'real' cover too and it's not a M9.

Some sort of flare gun/ or other signalling device. Looks like a lanyard hold through bottom rear of the handle, which might be logical for lifeboat/dinghy use. Appears to be a single shot, unless of course, it's a two-barrel.
That cartridge is 'way too large for a "normal" shotshell.
I took too long in writing this. I see dwkennedy beat me to the flare gun guess. :p

It's probably a staged photo. When discussed on 1911forum.com, the grip was identified as being the pistol grip from an MG.

It looks like an MP-40 grip to me. But I have no idea how an MP-40 can fit in a holster like that

It was pretty well identified as the trigger group from an MG42, most likely either a staged photo, or a souveneir bring home piece.

I'm in the Army and that beats the heck out of me.
Could we get a high quality scan of the entire torso?

I'll have to do it when I go back to work tomorrow.

That looks like a double-action trigger on it. I don't know what MG-42's had, but I don't think that's an MG-42 grip. Also looks like a hammer sticking out the top of the holster just a little forward of the retention strap.
I thought it might be some kind of CZ at first. I think I will have to go with a flare pistol of some kind. Don't know what they would use it for, tho. Maybe something he picked up?

just the trigger group now

Probably the pistol grip of a M240. They are copied off the MG42.
SMLE
March 19, 2004, 03:28 AM
Here is a M 240B. The grip is similar, but there is no hole in the butt. I'm going to go with the flare gun idea. Maybe something FN made that uses some common parts for economy?

Problem with the "trigger group from an MG42" idea is A)Why? and (more importantly) B)That ain't what it is. An MG42 trigger group has a tang that extends much further to the rear behind the pistol grip (at least according to the cutaway I'm looking at) and has no hammer (the spur of which you can see under the retention strap.) I'm gonna go with SMLE and guess "some kind of FN-manufactured flare projector."

- - More likely "grip frame and grip panel." Just look at all the products and accessories on the market which use the standard AR15/M16 plastic handle nowadays.
I'm glad to see the good illustrations of the MG42 - - Placement of the screws and the distinctive panel shape seem fairly conclusive. I've never been particularly interested in flare projectors, though. Guess I'll do a search on this topic area, if I's still interested when I find time . . . :p

Wow, look at that. A Very Pistol!!!
[geezer voice activated] I remember when all this was orchard, you could take the ferry to East Morganville which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. I'd tie an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time, and put 4 bees in my pocket. I'd tell the storekeep, give a flare gun for a bee, would ya?

Isn't the new prototype shotgun that goes under the M-16 is it? Somebody smarter than me(most anybody) do a search; I saw that combo pictured here not long ago, probablyin "general".
Stay safe.

Could be the removable shotgun attachment. Is the Under-shottie in the field yet? I thought it was still in trials.
A better question is: After September 14 2004, can we have an under-shottie for the AR-15?
Im still sticking to the trigger/grip group from the MG.

there is NO way they'll "let" us have those! And I can see SWAT REALLY going for 'em: load the chamber with some form of "lockbuster" shell, and be completely ready to rock...
Hmmm... something like that might be interesting for trap (or at least get odd looks)...
Can't say I know what's in the holster in the original picture. However, my first thought was "how quickly could you actually access it?". Think I'll go with the flare people on this one...

I don't think the AWB covers those kinds of shotguns, but they're so short they would be NFA weapons.

Stick with what you want, but once again, that's not what it is. Go look at a the trigger group of either an MG-42 or an M240, and come back and tell me that's what you think it is. (Hint: a pic of the whole gun is not the trigger group. It is a flare pistol. This is why there is a flare in the spare mag pouch of the holster.)

Tamara is correct (again).
That is a flare pistol. you clearly see the brass base of the extra shell in the photo. It's right next to the uncocked hammer.
But yes it does resemble an MG42 grip.

My infantry buddy tells me that it is indeed a flare launcher pistol that can also be used for smoke type projectiles.

Damn.....I suppose I do see the extra flare in the pocket, and the hammer now that Im forced to. When I first saw the pic, my mind instantly said MG42...dammit.:uhoh:
