I hate to sound like a weanie, but my shoulder is black and blue from firing my AR yesterday. I only put about 200 rounds downrange, but I was holding it in tight and close and what with the hard plastic checkered buttpad, it was getting pretty uncomfortable at the end of the day. I did a little searching, but couldn't find any name brands that offer a slip-on, or even a replacement, rubber buttpad that would reduced felt recoil. Any suggestions?

I can't recall the brand name right now, but I have seen the slip-on recoil pads at Dicks, Dunhams, and Gander Mountain. $11-$15 as I recall.

Gonna pick up one tonight and put on my Mosin-Nagant M-44.

Yeah, I saw that one too, but I didn't want to extend my length of pull any. The downside of the one ordered is that it is a slip-on type and may not look great aesthetically.

Rock Jock:

You are correct that the slip-on pads are not all that AP [Aesthetically Pleasing), but if it enables me to shoot more rounds, and with better accuracy................... oh, well, I'll take substance over style any day.

For a more permanent solution you could also try going to the A1 type buttplate. The corners are rounded and it lacks the coarse checkering of the A2.

Good Shooting

Thanks, Redleg. What is the difference in lengths between the A1 and A2 stock? I keep forgetting this?

Whenever I shot my AR a lot I get this waffle bruising on my shoulder, but it never really caused much discomfort.
