A network I belong to shares legitimate job openings and this one seemed important enough to share with THR members. The position is with a mfr of rifles and shotguns in New England. Here's the text of the info. Please note... I know nothing more than what is pasted in below, other than to reiterate that my network named "Gray Hair Management" usually succeeds in filtering out scams and bogus job ads.

GENERAL MANAGER, HUNTING DIVISION
LOCATION: Eastern New England

COMPANY: A well known, high end manufacturer of a broad range of premium long rifles and accessories for use in the hunting industry.

REPORTING: The General Manager, Hunting Division, reports to the company's CEO. Reporting directly to this General Manager are 2 senior product managers, one for a clothing apparel line and the other for the long gun line. In addition, this General Manager has responsibility for a large network of dealers located throughout the country.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The General Manager, Hunting Division, is a newly created position responsible for the development and execution of a business plan that will establish our client as a serious player in the premium segment of the hunting industry. Currently, this business consists of roughly $5 MM in revenue, generated by the sale of long rifles and shotguns, as well as a newly created apparel and accessory line. This General Manager must well understand the nature of our client's customer set and develop the kinds of products and services that will be most appropriate to that segment. This will likely be through the development of partnerships, private label manufacturing, and other types of programs that will help establish this company as a serious player in the premium segment of the hunting industry. Moreover, the company has a large dealer network that this Manager must work closely with in terms of developing the promotional programs that will motivate the dealers to promote the purchase of this company's line of products by its customers. The company culture is decidedly a hands on, get it done one, and this manager must be someone who needs little oversight and understands what it takes to build a premium product brand in this marketplace.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS: Candidates for this position should have an appropriate academic background along with a demonstrated track record of building a business within the sporting goods industry and preferably within the hunting segment. This person should be someone with a keen interest in hunting and well understand the high end segment such that they are able to develop an integrated product and service strategy that will help this company grow this segment. Experience in putting partnerships together as well as working with private label manufacturers is important as well as an understanding the promotional and branding aspects of developing a consumer oriented business. Some of the products today are made in Europe, and this manager must be an excellent communicator, capable of building strong relationships with support people in a different country. Further, this person will operate in a highly autonomous manner and must be well organized, self motivated, and able to achieve objectives with little oversight.

COMPENSATION: A base plus bonus package that will pay in the
$130,000-$160,000 K range.
