Opinions on BCM Gunfighter and which size latch?

I have a Colt M4 and a S&W M&P10, both flat top. I use an EOTech with magnifier or a variable scope with 30mm tube. My preferred charging style is edge of the curved left index finger (middle segment) on the latch with a straight left thumb pinching the back of the handle. I find this gives me more control than side of hand and the 7.62 uses a much stronger buffer spring than the 5.56.

My Colt and (to a significantly lesser extent my S&W) charging handle tend to bind from the side forces unless I keep it clean and lightly greased (I only use CLP or LP on the carrier--no grease).

I have large hands but comparably skinny fingers.

Here are my questions?
How well does the BCM Gunfighter work for this application (single side actuation and with a scope)?
Should I go with the Large #3 or Medium #4 latch?
Is the .308/7.62 model compatible with the S&W M&P10?

Mike

In my opinion, the medium size latch is perfect unless you have an optic or something in the way, then large works best. Just keep in mind that the large latch has more snag potential when the rifle is slung.

I like the Medium also and run it as you describe. I have to radius the inside edges of the latch where it meets the charging handle or I get pinched, though.

yeah, on a gun i'm carrying around, medium is great. on a competition gun where i'm less worried about snags, large is easier to manipulate.

I like the way the BCM is built and run the smallest latch. Less snags.

I have the Medium on one gun.
It seemed to be the best compromise, and it binds less than another design I tried, but I can still torque-bind it if I don't pay attention.
I expect to get around to installing them on the others here.

I like the medium but have so few snagging problems with it, I've often thought of going to the large.

I have a medium on mine. It's big enough to get a grip but not too big where it snags or pokes me when it's slung

I got an email reply from Bravo Company. I guess they have found their 7.62 unit not to be a good fit on the M&P10.

Measured from the main body here are the approximate measurements:

Mod 3 = 20mm
Mod 4 = 13.5mm

I have an Eotech 516 on my carbine, and use the medium latch. Based on my experience with it, I'd think the larger latch would dig painfully into your sternum when the rifle is hanging from a tactical sling, unless you were wearing a ballistic vest or other gear; the medium is about as large as I'd want to go.

I bought a medium Gunfighter and liked it so bought a second for another AR. It's just about perfect whether I have on irons, a small RDS and when I screw on my 4x9-40 scope. I was tempted to try the small but think the medium is right for me.

Another vote for medium!

BCM Gunfighter mod 4's (medium) is the only charging and I use and the best charging handle I've ever used. Built like a tank and does a good job keeping the gas in.

I've been running a #3 (large) on mine now for a number of years. I wanted easy access to the charging handle in spite of the mount which protrudes a bit on the support side. This has worked perfectly for me. They offer a great charging handle, IMO.

Went from a Badger Ordnance (waaaay too snaggy) to a small BCM. I don't see the need for anything bigger. YMMV

I have the large (#3) on my Spikes AR and it has not given me any snagging issues. Running a 6x32 Scope with MBUS no problems.

Medium is perfect for me - much more working area than the standard charging handle, but not so much that it hangs up on things.

Medium on one of my guns, large on the other. I like both. The BCM handle is much better for working the charging handle with the weak hand exclusively as is the modern carbine technique.

I have the large on my competition rifle and have never snagged it on anything. It will bite the snot out of you sometimes.

I have mod 3 large on all my ARs except my national match. I like the open hand charge and the large makes it easy. No issues with snags or failures.

I used to run the badger gen 1. It was ok, but it always felt like it would break. It never did. The gunfighters feel solid as a rock.

I run #3's on all of mine. Never had a snag from it. I have had a heavily scratched chest though.
