Where should I buy a 7.62x54R Mosin Nagant Rifle? I like this historical aspect of this gun but am not a formal collector. I pick up surplus guns once in a while for the fun of it and to add to the family.

Where should I buy? Any guidance on which one to get between laminated and regular? Any importance to matched serial numbers?

Thanks.

Most local Gun shops have them in stock covered in cosmoline. Lol. I don't think the big box stores carry them though..... I. E. Walmart, bass Pro, etc.

Bought mine from a LGS on a whim for $99. Just saw them at the local Cabela's store for $169 earlier today.

Deviating from the topic a little bit. I ve shot my Yugo M 48A last Sunday. Using Yugo surplus dated 1951 gave me a 1.25 inch group at 50 yrds. This was slow fire on sandbag rest using open sights . Just amazes me how these old rifle s stand up . That same ruggedness and battlefield accuracy goes with the battletested M91.30 rifles. They are almost the same in accuracy . They can average around 3 inch groups at 100 yrd s if you do your part. Always get the best bore condition and avoid the counterbores . A shot out barrel will leave you scratching your head.

A lot more flavors than laminated vs. regular.

Personally I would not buy any 91/30 sight unseen. A hands inspection is essential because many have been rode hard. Matching does not matter that much so long as the bolt is loose in the hand and headspacing is good. I've had very few problems with headspacing on Mosins as opposed to Mausers.

I would suggest an M39 Finn as the best all-around Mosin for the buck. There are always some for sale on gunbroker.

12many,
If you have one in your area, Dunham's Sports sells them from $99 to $159.
www.dunhamssports.com Their website doesn't show their firearm inventory, but it will give you locations of their stores.

I used to own a M-39 Finnish Mosin-Nagant and it was a shooter.

I bought a 91/30 last month from AIM as a gift for my Brother.
Paid the hand pick fee and got a real nice rifle 1944 izzy.

I've always had very good service from AIM and Classic.

I bought a six-pack of M38's from Classic earlier this year and got 5 very nice rifles and one Unbelievable rifle.
MO Double date in a laminate stock.
9 out of 10 rarity.

I was in Pine Grove California, above Jackson, a small gun shop had two of them, 179 each.
I prefer f2f, no DROS or tax. I would not expect to pay more than 150.
