10/22 Iron Sights question

OK, so I have a 10/22. The factory sights stink, the trigger pull is atrocious, and the stupid bolt hold-open is annoying as...well, its pretty annoying.

I have been Enlightened via a search on TFL about the Volquartsen hammer, which will allegedly help the trigger pull a lot.

I have also been Enlightened about a modification to the factory part that holds the bolt back. Anyone able to post pictures to show what this might be?

And, the real question...I'm aware that Lyman, Williams, Ashley and probably a whole host of other companies make iron sights for the 10/22, many of which use the supplied receiver mounting base. Do any of them use the existing front sight, or will all of them require a new front sight? And if a new front sight is required, how easy is that to DIY?

Thanks,
Mike

Check out rimfirecentral.com (http://www.rimfirecentral.com/mainpage.shtml)

There you will find answers to all of your questions.

The Volquartsen Hammer is nice and the JB Weld trick makes it even better.

Here (http://rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=16295&highlight=bolt+release) is a link to a pic of the bolt release mod.

I don't know anything about the irons available but they would have to be an improvement over the stock sights. A finger adjustable rear and a blade front would be really nice.

Yea,

The standard sights are pathetic, but manageable. The trigger pull lacks a lot to be desired. And the bolt is a little annoying.

But boy is it a hoot to shoot!

Slap an el cheapo scope on that puppy and burn up a few bricks.
