Lee Classic Cast Breech Lock - problem with retention pin

The retention pin (#15) is stuck in the depressed position. I have tried pressing on it to see if it will unstick, but no luck. It does not move at all. In normal use, it will spring back up when pressed.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

[ No Lee bashing please; there are already enough threads for that available. ]

Actually, it does move. It will go in just a very small amount and spring back up to where it is stuck, plus it rotates. The top of the pin is flush with the surface of the press body.

It's probably caught in a burr. Tap the side of the press lightly with a hammer, maybe also while pressing in and releasing the button. Worse comes to worse, send it back to Lee, they will fix it for you and send it back probably for free, you just have to pay to ship it out there.

Have you tried popping it up from the inside where it locks the bushing in?

Call Lee, they have always been helpful to me over the phone.

Tried tapping lightly with large channel lock pliers with no luck. There also does not appear to be a way to reach the inside - removing the bushing does not provide any access to the button.

One thing though, after further investigation into what a breech lock is (interrupted screw (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interrupted_screw)), I have just tightened down the bushing to tightened things up. I actually may like this better, as I don't really use the bushing for how it is meant to be used, but did not have a choice when I bought it.

Thanks for all the responses!

That'll work but it sure is nice to have a bunch of bushings/dies that are set in a quarter turn.

Good.Luck let us know if you fix it.

Find out how much to ship it back; my guess is about $25. Call Lee, see what they have to say. Ask about drilling an 1/8" hole coming up from below the pin and push it out. Maybe 1/16" hole to start. You do have a drill motor and bits, don't you?

I do have an electric drill and bits. I'm thinking I may just leave it like it is for now. But, I may call Lee.

If your press is like mine, it'll work itself free eventually.

Took mine about a month or two.

Works as it was designed.
