Just started loading 45 auto. Going thru some of my bras and realized some had small pistol primers and some large. Is this normal or something new?

Normal since lead-free primers came on the market in the late 1990's.
Large lead-free primers were causing breach face damage because the primer mix is more powerful then the old lead styphnate primers we are used to.

Might as well get used to it now, cause it is here to stay.

They can be reloaded using standard SP primers using the same load data.

For a long time 45ACPs were large primered.

Over the last few years, some ammo makers started using small primers.

So you gotta sort 'em.
No big deal for me, but some hate it.

If you hate the brass that uses small primers, box it up & send it to me.
I'll take your headache away. ;)
That goes for everyone, not just trooks

One way to look at it. In today's world, if you have SP primers, load them. LP, load them. Then you have a choice.

Just be sure to keep the cases sorted by primer size.

I think I will keep them. Just make sure to sort them.
