I think it will be interesting to see how the calibers break down.

I don't have a 9mm or a .45 yet. However, I'm working on that.
I plan on filling the 9mm vacancy with another BHP, it just seems right. The .45 vacancy is up in the air?

I have:

1 .22

1 .380 ACP

1 .38 Special

2 .357 Mag's

2 .40 S&W's

1 .44 Special

2 .44 Mag's

I have:
2 .22s
2 9mms(9mm Para)
1 .357 Magnum
1 .45 ACP
1 .44 Magnum

Would like to have a :
.500 Magnum
.50 AE
A couple more .45 ACPs
at least 1 more .357 Magnum.
A nice scope for my .44
Maybe a .380

Fella's;

As far as this list is concerned, it's all about what I want and am gonna get.

1. Freedom Arms .454 Casull.

2. Smaller carry gun, possibly a Firestar. THE requirement is hammer fired.

3. .22 semi-auto, probably a Ruger MkII.

4. Maybe an H&K Tactical.

Too many more than that would get in the way of the long arms want list.

Greeting's All-

These days I limit the guns I actually shoot to just
a few. Namely-

a) An "old model" Smith & Wesson model 60 in .38 SPL
b) A 2000 production model S&W 6" 686-5 in .357 mag
c) A 1999 production model S&W 5" 629-5 "Classic" .44
d) A 1990 West German 9m/m SIG-SAUER P228
e) A 1995 West German .45 ACP SIG-SAUER P220A
f) A 1995 American made stainless Walther PPK .380
g) A 1998 NAA .22 magnum "mini" with 1-1/8" barrel
h) A 1999 production model 12 gague Remington 870 Marine Magnum

These seem to satisfy my immediate needs; but hopefully
there will be a .22 LR Smith & Wesson wheel gun in my not
to distant future?

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

You know, I was re-reading this thread after posting, and got mathematically inquisitive. Twenty of us have a total of 339 handguns... that makes it as near as whatsit to 17 handguns apiece. That average doesn't include long guns, either! What was that again about "2.75 guns per firearm owner in the US?" Looks to me like we're trying to bump up the averages... :D

Top scorer so far is M2 Carbine with 53, followed by Tamara with 50 and yours truly with 43. {Sigh}... I must try harder... :p

(But I bet I beat Tamara on long guns...) :neener:

Maybe I've forgotten some, I list conversion barrels as another caliber, and don't count my 610 as a .40, just a 10mm. Notice that I have no .38 specials listed.

Looking to lose one of the .44 mags, and one of the 9mm guns, just too redundant.
Looking to get more 10mm guns, Dan wesson, are you listening?
I'm set on .41s, maybe the 'right' one will strike my fancy, but it would have to be pretty 'right', as I don't really need any more than 6 of one caliber. Maybe a minty 4" nickeled M57. Hmmmmm.
Maybe I could lose a .357 magnum, they just aren't as fun as they used to be, and I seem to enjoy .41 magnums and 10mm guns a little more.

In the course of my years handgunning (4 years or so), I have had the following in my collection:

3 22lr/22mag
3 357mag/38 special
1 380acp

Those are further broken down to:
2 Single Action Revolvers
3 double action Revolvers
2 semi automatics (bottom feeders:neener: )

I need to increase my collection so that I can invite people to join me at the range. I'd say that my collection is off to a good start. I'm still relatively young and if I had everything right now that I wanted, what would I day dream about?

I repeat, in my humble opinion, there are only four handgun cartridges:

1. .22 LR -- I have four, including two M1911's with conversion kits (one Ciener, one Colt Service Ace.)

2. .357 Magnum (which includes the .38 Special, of course). I have two, with one or two more currently in the possession of my daughters.

3. .45 ACP -- I have three (counting the two with conversion kits.)

4. .45 Colt -- I have two, a Colt New Service and a Ruger Blackhawk

My wife has a Colt .25 Automatic.

1 - .44 Magnum
1 - .454 Casull
2 - .480 Ruger
1 - .500 S&W Magnum

My next acquisition is likely to be another N-frame, .357, .44 Special, or 10mm, whichever I encounter first.

I could add .380, 38 Spl, .357 Mag, .44 Spl, 10mm, 38-40, and .50 AE by counting guns I used to have, but that would be depressing so I won't.

Picking up the .454 today!:D

Don't have any 9mm - don't really want any. Will add more .45's and hopefully a 10mm in autos, and a .44 Mag and what ever else I can get in revolvers. :)

1-10mm
2-.40S&W
5-.45ACP

Want to get another 10mm, a .357Sig (does it really count if I just want to get another barrel for one of my .40s?), a .22, and maybe a 9mm.

And some more surplus 1911A1s, so I can have one from every maker.

Ok, trying to do this from memory so I don't have to drag a pad of paper out to the safe

(3) .22
(1) .32
(1) .380
(2) 9x18 Mak
(5) 9x19 Luger
(1) 7.62x25
(2) .45
(3) .38/.357

Apart from the .32/.380 I like to keep 500-1000 (.22 add a zero or two :D ) rounds of each caliber on hand so I try to keep the total # of calibers down to a # that my wallet won't faint over. I'm sure that eventually I'll end up with something in .40 as they have become so common that eventually I'll see a deal that I can't/shouldn't pass up. Same with a .44. Oh, & I wouldn't mind a 10mm in the safe. Oh, & a ...... :D .

Who knows what the future will bring. One thing for certain though is that the kids/(future) grandkids will have a heavy inheritance :D .

Woah! Some of you all are seriously armed, I'm jeleous! This gives me great motivation to keep buying, as if I was not motivate anyway? LOL

I find it interesting the amount of heavy caliber hanguns we all have. I didn't think I would see as many .41 and .44 Magnums as have been listed.

Of course, if I have scanned with these eyes correctly, the majority are in 9mm, .38, .357 and .45 calibers with the 9mm and .38 being foremost? Not surprising.

;)

Keep on buying folks! Everytime we all buy a single firearm, it helps the cause!

Preacherman looked at the figures a while back .... but as of now we have .....

70 posts with gun numbers
1033 total handguns

So this averages at 14.75 guns per poster.

Make a loose valuation average of just $250 per gun .... and this thread is covering over 1/4 Million Dollar's worth of hardware ($258,250). It's probably up beyond there easily!!:p

handguns only in calibers - -

.25 ACP
.32 ACP
.380
.38 S&W
.38 Spl

.45 Colt

Well, fewer than I thought. One .38 on more-or-less permanent loan. (Sure would like to have THAT one back, too . . . )
Swapped off one 9mm recently, for a rifle. And gave away my .44 Mag. Oh, well . . . .

Best,

Or about the same as a set of matched Purdey's would set you back.

:what:

P95, I agree, that's too low. I would guess around 350.00 to 400.00 per gun would be more realistic.

I'd bet we were well north of $250K. I'd guess closer to $1,000,000.

I just added mine up from memory. Calculating from what I paid accounting for the fact that I almost always buy used and shop for good deals. Anyway I'm right at $4600 and I'm about middle of the pack.
Puts mine at about $184/gun.
Might be higher if I priced them at replacement value but probably not.
.22s and com bloks bring the average down, and the most expensive I have is my $450 Randall 1911
