So, who's the cheapest online for a 1000rd case?

Russians?

Actully the 1000/$70 stuff looks like wolf too me. They do have some "mil-spec" 7.62x39 in sealed tins for $60/700 though. Not sure where that was made but, it shouldnt make much difference if it really is milspec surplus.

granted all the stuff is pretty much the same. Don't think i have to worry about an AK47 jamming on anything. I think i'd just feel more comfortable if it said "wolf" or "barnaul" on it, rather than the incredibly vauge "russian."

I think the AIM stuff is Golden Tiger made at the Vympel factory. I wasn't aware that it was free shipping though.

Here in DE local gunshops sell the wolf, or barnul for $99 I know that if you order from AIM shipping is NOT included, It was not on the 7.62x51 I bought from them, The shipping will probably add $20 to the cost of a case.
Ask them, they should be able to tell you. You will have to send them a copy of your drivers license via fax before they will ship the ammo.

I have been very pleased with their price and service, and everything was exactly as described, no problems or surprises.

I got the 1000 rounds for $70 from AIM a couple of weeks ago. Ordered it online and shipping was free; not sure it that's still the case or not. And it is Golden Tiger.

Put 100 rounds of it through my wife's Yugo SKS. Functioned great. Grouped pretty well too.

I know for a fact that I just ordered 200 rnds of Silver Bear .45 and 100rnds of Igmann 6.5x55 , and I was charged no shipping. I knwo this because the charge has already went through my account for the amount of the ammo only.

If Wolf is what you're looking for, CheaperThanDirt.com has Wolf FMJ for $85.00/1,000 round case; which is a little more than Golden Tiger, but shipping for that amount is $12.99 plus a $3.00 flat handling fee on all ammo orders. I'm not familiar with Golden Tiger, so can't be much help in comparing the two.

Tanners in Jamison PA has it for $105.47 out the door. If you live in Center City it's about 45 minutes from you. They're open on Saturdays so you can pick some up before you go to the shoot on Sunday.

.....you're a genius! There's a brand new cabella's about an hour and a half from me. Sure, i'll spend more on gas than i would have on shipping, but i've been looking for a reason to see this place...hmm, wonder if i could convince my dad to take a trip to see it....get him to drive.

I was just at Cabelas yesterday for lunch and to kill some time.....I saw a whole TWO cases of Wolf, and about 5 or 6 20rnd boxes on the shelf.....that's it. Call before you drive all the way up there. If it's on sell I suppose it's not a bad price but the boxes were marked $2.50. I bought two boxes of .45 WWB and two of .38 Super WWB while I was there....$13.99 for the .45 and 9.99 for the .38 Super. I'm not impressed with their prices at all.

I've always bought from Cabelas. There isn't one near me, but you can order a case of Wolf that they have on their web page for $74.99 and it ends up costing $87.94 shipped. Still less then I've found it anywhere else. Just make sure you get the stuff without the ammo cans, because even though it says the same price on their site they add an additional $12 handling charge if you buy it with the "free" ammo cans.

Since I bought another gun from AIM, I went ahead and ordered a case of Golden Tiger from them at the same time. We'll see how much it ends up costing once they add shipping. That's the only thing I don't like about AIM's website, you have no way of knowing what the shipping will be.

When it's time to feed my SKS or AK, I always buy a few cases of Barnual from www.dansammo.com

Free shipping east of the Mississipi. :D

I can't buy any ammo thru the mail. I live in Kennedy land and have to pay whatever the stores want. With the prices I see at Aim and elsewhere, I'm bummed.

Just hypothetically, would it be legal for you to take a long road trip and bring back a few cases? Or perhaps get a friend in another state to buy some for you?

About 2 weeks back, the Gander Mountain near me had Wolf HP for 1.79 per box of 20. (The stuff in the black box with the wolf's head logo. Said non-corrosive)

$89.50 per thousand, + tax.

Usual price for that ammo @ Gander Mtn is $1.99 per box of 20

As far as I know Wolf really IS noncorrosive. But also as far as I know, Russian military doctrine still uses corrosive (or what some call "semi-corrosive") primers because apparently these primers are far more reliable under sub-zero conditions. It's easy for us to forget that most of Russia is a frozen iceburg much of the year.

HOWEVER, having said that, I'm also a cheapskate and shoot corrosive milsurp ammo most of the time. The way to keep it from ever harming your rifles is to clean the bore, chamber, and bolt throughly with ammonia-based Windex while the barrel is still hot from shooting. When the patches come out clean, run a couple of dry patches through, and finish up with one soaked in oil. Yeah, it means an extra ten minutes at the range, but it also means the regular cleaning at home takes no time at all.

will blasting the bore with gun scrubber neutralize it?

Master Blaster

I have been shooting the wolf in my sar-1, and so far no signes of corrosion, I clean with Breakfree clp when I get home or a few hours later.
The sar has a crome lined bore as do all of the AK variants from the former soviet bloc.

Wolf claims to be non corrosive.

will blasting the bore with gun scrubber neutralize it? Soap and water are the only things that effectively clean corrosive salts. Blasting it with Windex will do the job, and that's even cheaper and easier than Gunscrubber.

DF357 - Go to Four Seasons in Woburn. I picked up a 1000 rnds of Wolf 7.62X39 for less then $100. Carl always has some in stock and it's a great place to buy. Check out his web site at FSGuns.com . With the way things are around here in Mass, We have to support our gun stores as much as possible. Carl just makes it easy.
