Little to go on so far, with what you told us.

What rifle is it?
* Yes, I know it's a Steyr Mannlicher-Schoenaur, but what model exactly?

* Any markings on the sight base?

* Any markings under it on the back side if you take it off the receiver??

It could be an old German sight that came with the rifle, in which case finding a slide will be very hard to do.

Or, it could be an early Lyman or Redfield, which would only be a little easier to find parts for.

Numrich Gun Parts (http://www.gunpartscorp.com/) might have what you are looking for.

The rifle is out of state and I do not own it but am seriously thinking about buying it if I can find the part(s)

The rifle is a 1903 model. On youtube they have an MS 1903 and the receiver sight( Lyman 63) on that rifle is spring loaded as the bolt hits it during operation but this sight base doesn't look exactly like that one. Link to youtube below

I think you have the earlier Lyman 36 made for split bridge rifles. See some at
http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?181706-WTS-Rare-Lyman-36-Rear-Sights-for-Mannlicher-Schoenauer

I have no idea where to get parts.
You might ask Gary Fellers, although he does not catalog one.
