Your best single gun related Photograph

August 14, 2013, 02:03 PM
Alright folks I have seen the great/amazing pictures on THR before but now I am issuing a photo challenge. I would like to see what you consider your best gun photo. I recently lost all of my pictures on my computer when it had a freakout so Id like to see yours.

Thanks Horsemen61

I started, or at least came up with the idea for a monthly photo contest in another big gun forum; maybe we can do the same thing here?

My wife is getting into photography, and I snapped a few while she was at work a couple months back, just to experiment with the camera. I think they turned out well.

I can't decide between these two:

Yes it is a mosin. I happen to think it is quite fetching =P

My lady got a nice tripod and new prime lens this week, so I will likely be trying my hand at a few more shots before long.

I love these cool picture threads =)

Your second picture, hands down. Back-lighting is the thing.

I've got some others that I like, but this is a recent one that I took. Only camera that I have is my phone, so I just try to make it work :o

This is probably my favorite. Taken my last trip to my grandfather's farm before he passed away. Sure do miss him, but I still get out to that farm as often as I can, just as he wanted.

You didn't specify what type or size gun in your post so here are two of my best that were shot while on duty as a military photographer in Viet Nam.The first shows tracers from a minigun mounted in an AC47 "Spooky" and the second is more obvious.

Wow, just wow. Those pictures really tell a story from a different world.

Thank you for your service.

August 16, 2013, 02:08 PM
Taken with my cell phone a few years back, now it's my computer wallpaper at work. Not the greatest photography, but it's my favorite because of what it represents. It's my son's (then 15 years old) Springfield 1903 that he inherited from my father-in-law when he died, and we'd spent the day trying it out and adjusting the sights. This was on the 200 yard range, and by the end of the day he was putting all of his shots on an 8-inch paper plate (tiny white dot on the upper berm). I couldn't have had a better day if I'd tried.

August 16, 2013, 05:10 PM
These are some of my mine.

Not the best quality pics but I thought this was neat. I had made and installed a muzzle brake on one of my rifles and decided to video the test firing. When I was in editing mode I was able to pull some stills catching the bullet as it exits the barrel.

I think my two best is a toss up of the two below I took this week... also the first time I aimed for good looking gun pics instead of just pics.

August 18, 2013, 07:21 PM

Not sure it's my best one or not, it's one of the more recent ones. I just finally finished putting my longtime "nightstand gun" into it's fullest loadout with an EZ rail adapter and TLR-1s. The CT laser was inherited, otherwise I wouldn't have that on it, it's not a vital part of it's deployment.

Hello friends and neighbors // I like the many different firearms we all appreciate as well as all the different ways we photograph them.

The mountain rifle photo by Malamute has been my screen saver several times over the years.. definitely a keeper... nice photo shop job BTW (just kidding) outstanding hunting grounds and photo.

I have several pics that came out better than "got lucky" but this speaks to me of hard won Victories thru two World Wars,, a history that
always makes me proud to be an American gun owner.

stressed, gotta ask - RPG captured in one of the sandboxes and photographed there, or on of the super rare legal NFA RPGs in the US?

Phantom Captain - that's AWESOME, love that pic!

Thanks! I'm quite fond of that one too. I took it at a National Event at the Nash Farm Battlefield just south of Atlanta in 2009. We had a few thousand reenactors there and we were the only Indiana unit that actually was from Indiana. If you look closely through the smoke you can see a Confederate officer up on the ridge above the prepared trench line there. We were ordered to attack up the slope and take the ridge. What you can't see are the hundreds of Confederate soldiers along that line obscured by our own smoke.

With all my years experience reenacting I think this photo really gets as close as one can to the civil war without actually being there (yet, obviously with the heartbreak of all the death and destruction). Being on-line during a volley in the summer heat, wearing wool, hearing the sounds, smelling the powder, coughing on and seeing all the smoke, etc. really puts it all into perspective.
