Anyone know of a double-action revolver in .50AE? I've seen a couple custom conversions, but it's usually a full custom and priced $2,000+. Would like to stay below $1,000.

Don't remember how much Bowen charges...

The only factory 50AE I'm aware of is the Magnum Research BFR short-frame - but that's SA (scaled-up Ruger SuperBlackhawk more or less).
Hmmm...is it possible Taurus chambered a Raging Bull series in 50AE?
Bowen's Redhawk conversions will run a LOT more than a grand. A "lesser name" gunsmith might be able to do a Redhawk/SRH based five-shot conversion but again, it'll cost. Even if you started with an SRH in 480, there's not enough leftover cylinder metal to ream the chambers out to a six-shot 50AE, so you're looking at a full custom cylinder no matter what. And that'll cost.
(scratches head)
If the Taurus was never set up for 50AE, you could take a five-shot factory 454 and ream it out to 50AE then swap barrels. That would be the cheapest possible DA conversion to 50AE 'cuz there's no custom cylinder needed.

Is there a difference between the 50AE and the S&W 500? If not you could get the new S&W 500 4".

Iwjev, those are 2 totally different cartridges. The .50AE is a rimless semi-auto cartridge and the 500 S&W is a rimmed revolver cartridge.

Jim, thanks for the reply (again:))
Yep, the .50 ae and .500S&W are totally different animals. Performance-wise, the .50ae is closer to the .480 ruger than the S&W .500.

The 454 ain't as "fat" as the 480 or 50AE but it spanks both ballistically.
The 454 can also take lighter 45LC/45LC+P fodder, which is also lower-cost practice stuff.
A number of gunsmiths convert the Ruger SRH454 to moon clips, at which point 45LC through 454 load faster AND you can load 45ACP...making it the only handcannon-class piece able to take REALLY cheap practice fodder.
And you've still got a sixgun versus five. It's just not a "fifty".
