I purchased an IZH35M but the grips didn't fit. I tried dremeling, but my dremel skills leave much to be desired. So I decided to try and find some replacement grips. I found out that the Walther KSP grips would fit the 35M if i removed the safety and changed the side magazine release to a heel release. Did a little internet searching and found that DJ Precision sells a heel mag release and also a better competition trigger. I ordered both. Called up Neil Stepp at ISS and ordered the medium sized KSP grips. Got all my parts in and went to modify my IZH. Removed the safety, replaced the trigger, tried to tap out the pin holding the magazine release but the darn thing was in there tight. Tried everything and finally took it to the gunsmith. He tapped it, drilled it, and finally was able to get punch in there to drive it out. So now I have my IZH setup to fit my hands. Here's the final product:

Now I have to fool around with all those adjustments for the trigger. This thing can flat out shoot. The new grips give me an excellet hold on the gun and it points just right.

I've shot the Hamerili guns that look similar to this...
How does this compare to those? And how much are you into this gun?
Cost of gun plus these parts and such.

Are you going to compete with it?

For comparison, I also have a Ruger MkII govt comp and Sig Trailside competition. The IZH points the best out of all of them and seems to be more accurate with cheapo Win Dynapoints. The Sig TS fit and finish is way beyond the IZH and the Ruger. I hardly take out the ruger and just shoot the IZH and TS. The IZh will be shot with iron sights and the TS with an Ultradot 4.

The IZh ran me a little under $500 (CDNN won't ship to CA, otherwise it woulda been so much cheaper). Grips were $100 and the other parts about $50 so all total around $650.

No plans to compete as yet, still working on my shooting skills.

How does this compare to those? (Hammerli's)

I've had both the IZH and the Hammerli 280. The recoil on the two is very close in feel, they both come straight back. The IZH will shoot as good as the 280's with the right ammo. The trigger on the Hammerli has a very clean break, it's not that clean on the IZH. Be very careful in your trigger adjustments, shoot it a bit before you adjust anything.

You did a beautiful job on those grips, they look like the laminated grips that Rink makes. Arnie Vitarbo makes a nice set of grips for that gun without the moveable palm shelf. You can see them here http://www.nealjguns.com/ss_store/CustomGrips-ss2.html

I didn't make the grips (if only I was that skilled). They're made for the Walther KSP. Ordered from Neil Stepp at ISS.

sactown, I am also in the capitol city. I just put some money down on an izh35m at rivercity gun exchange. I can't do the papwork until mid july because I just bought a springfield armory loaded longslide -- one a month and all that
meanwhile, I am frantically trying to learn all I can about the pistol before I get it. I shoot over at Mangin range. Would love to meet up with you there and check out your gun and the mods you did. email me at behightower@yahoo.com if that would be okay with you. regards.
