These were actually made by TOPS knives for Browning. If anyone's interested they're called Field Duty Extreme.

Browning and HK are the only gun makers I know who put their name on decent knives.

Remington knives have always been good and Ruger's occasional foray into knives has been with knives made for them by good companies in the U.S. The first Smith and Wesson "blue box" knives back in the '80s were also good, but when they, like Colt, sold/leased their brand name to companies just wanting to make a buck off the brand the quality collapsed.

Don't think I've seen any Remingtons...but lots of crappy S&Ws, Winchesters, and Colts.

Not a lot of Remingtons out there that collectors don't gobble up (especially the first generation "bullet" pocket knives), but even their current line produced for them is better than the stuff you see produced under license with other gun company branding on them. http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/journals/JustOldKnife http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/remington_knives/

Here are pics of a couple of "blue box" S&Ws designed by Blackie Collins from back in the 70/80's. Pretty good knives of the vintage. Notice the blue S&W boxes in the backgrounds.

That's why I went with the Browning knives when I found out that TOPS knives made them. There's still a couple in the series that I want but even on eBay they're expensive. And that's "when" they come up!

HSO,
What's the model number of the first S&W knife in your last post? I like it and would like to look for it.

Thanks

I have a really cool Remington Ducks Unlimited folder with a couple blades and a choke wrench. My brother-in-law worked at Camillus Cutlery before it closed and grabbed one for me.

I have one of the hollow-handled survival knives that S&W made back in the "Blue Box" days. Very well constructed, especially in terms of overall fit and finish, these knives seemed to me to be more like custom offerings (thanks to Blackie Collins input), but much more affordable and attainable with factory made prices.

I think the lockback model you have pictured was one of the best designed knives that they made back then.
