What is the "minor engineering change" (Beretta's words) between the original "92F" and the 92FS?
Thanks.

An oversized trigger pin that blocks the frame rail channel. This is to stop the rear end of the slide should it break off of the front end.

It's that the head of the hammer pin has been enlarged, and a shallow crescent groove milled at the bottom of the left slide rail to ride over the head. If it were to travel too far to the rear(as in the event it breaks off), it would wedge to to a halt at the rear of the frame.

You'll hear talk of slides flying back and whacking your noggin.
I don't think it's happened since they fixed it but people do need a reason to get down on the Beretta. I think it was a result of people using hot hot hot loads thru the first Berettas that weren't designed to take 'em that hot?

the FS was a redesign that occured after the military accepted the M-9. seems that no one told certain parties in the army adn marine corps NOT to use Isreali Sub-gun ammo in the new 9mm pistol!! and there were a few accidents, involving slide separation. so the cut out was added to reduce injuries, if this happened.
so yes it was a response to the use of superhot loads in the gun. and given the fact that not everyone knows how to tell 9mm "pistol" rounds from the stuff ment to be used only in 9mm carbines and Sub-guns, it was a wise move by berreta.
there was NOTHING wrong with the original 92F design, it fuctioned fine with the intended ammo. in the civilian realm the redesign was simply a liability issue. in case some knucklehead decided to use UZI ammo in his new pistol.

Origin of the term "You aren't a SEAL until you've tasted Italian steel!"
Seems too many people who had to trust their lives to their handguns were ending up with busted cheeks from M9 failures.
