THR's in the Maryland, DC and Virginia area interested in becoming a part of a social organization I am starting for recreational purposes read on.

The country is changing. I have found that gun owners that frequent boards like this are great people. You are the kind of folks I can trust my kids around, assured that my power tools will return home and have the same values and traditions I am proud of. We could do more for our cause by being an example sometime than preaching when a legislative bill comes around. Society likes to be entertained more than educated. Let's slip some education in while we're partying. Join the Big Shot Social Club.

I've noticed also that we can get pretty hung up on firearms and alienate our families, spouses and friends that don't have the same passion for the shooting sports as we do. Well, I'm creating a resource for trips, travel, sporting events and recreational events where we can go and do everything all kind of seemingly non gun stuff with friends and family. Through this group, I'll be arranging fishing trips to Ocean City, the Chesapeake Bay, the NY theater, amusement parks, casinos in Atlantic City, Vegas, shooting trips, sporting events at the MCI center and comedy clubs. You don't have to go to all of them. But when you want to do something this summer, they'll be a group of people you will know that are going somewhere. Doing something. It will take the stress of you planning everything. Just sign up and come on.

I've found that there is power in numbers. Together we can get a discount on travel that I would like to use to give back to grassroots clubs, charities, kids groups and ministries. We have been all begging from the same pot. I am creating a new one. I would like to use our numbers, faithfulness, and values to do a couple of things.
One is to foster and keep the relationships we have on the range and in the Annapolis and Richmond positive.
Secondly, re-energize and maintain our family bonds. This will let some of the busy ones of our circle be able to plug and plot their own mini vacations.
This will allow you to fellowship with other pro gun people off line and get a chance to talk to non gun people in a recreational setting that may win more folks over to our way of thinking after they find out how cool we really are.
And finally, fun is never out of fashion. Some of us have just forgot what it felt like.

Everyone will not enjoy some of our activities. You may not care to go to Kings Dominion but you know some kids that do. We'll have a bus waiting for bodies to fill it if you so decide to send them this summer for the day. Some of you like Atlantic City, Delaware slots and some don't. Different strokes…
We'll have trips to the outlet malls for those that like shopping especially before school and during the Christmas season. If you would like to be a part of this I think you are going to like what I have planned for us. I'm hoping for some local gun dealers to come on board with this to help me put out a newsletter that will provide deals from their stores. There will be some special activities coming up at gun shows for members too.

If you would like to be included I would like you to be with me. Until we get our high speed website we'll be using the Yahoogroups website for communication. Join me there, its free.
Thanks,

Kenn Blanchard

No Worries,

I've learned a lot about guerilla warfare, using the enemies weapons etc. Let the good times roll...

Good idea Kenn. Perhaps you could re-post it in the General Discussion forum also. It may get more attention.

I'm not a big sports fan, but some of the other activities sound like fun.

You can definately count me in on the group charter fishing trips.

I've met some of THE BEST people I know through my interest in shooting, and I have no doubt that I'd enjoy other activities with them as well.

I'm in.

I live in northwestern North Carolina now, but I will be going home to the northern virginia area often and I am sure my girlfriend would love to go to Kings Dominion, etc.

I, too, have found that as a rule us gun owners (especially those who regularly carry concealed -- apologies to those from MD or DC) are exceedingly polite, nice, humorous, generous folk. We are pedantically law-abiding. We hold individuality sacred. Above all, we are people who get stuff done. We are the ones to whom our co-workers turn to get the presentation done on time when the data changes at the last moment. We do not just punch out at 5:30; we finish the cases on our desk before leaving for day. We are unafraid to disassemble the garbage disposal at our in-laws's house on Thanksgiving day with the water backing up and shredded pineapple rinds clogging the works (or maybe that's just me :)

In short, having gatherings sounds like a great idea.

Great ideas. Throws down a challenge to the rest of us across the country.

I didn't even realize this forum was here until someone pointed me to your thread as I am scratching my head in another thread about how to get more black and women residents of the SF Bay area into shooting sports.

Ooh, ooh, can fugitives from MD join?

What a great idea!!!

Nice website. Very eye-opening reading and will hopefully make people think.

I don't have a chance to check the site right now, but I'll be sure to get over there soon. While I'm not available for Sat or Fri night activities, and for such things that is often the logical time for most people, I'd be more than happy to join up for some Sunday or weeknight activities. Fishing, camping (Labor Day, Memorial Day, other 3 day weekends?), bar hops, picnics, general socializing, etc, are all my kinds of things.
