Sitting back tonite pondering a bittersweet moment. Next week is the last week of the pistol league season for 2013. I really enjoy my tuesday night league and will terribly miss it. At the same time, though, its a lot of work.

I am up at 6am every Saturday and Sunday to shoot. 500 rounds minimum at practice. Its not fun and games either, its structured practice with a stopwatch running and commands being given. Quite rigorous to be honest. My uncle and I love to push each other to get better, so we really hit it hard and in a very structured way. We treat it just like a NFL coach would his players, lots of drills and conditioning. In the end, though its work, its still enjoyable because its what I love to do.

I love the sport and am looking forward to next season just as I did this one. However, this season was special. I set a goal of shooting a 280, and seeing myself recognized for top score. Every week the top Slow fire, Timed fire, and Rapid fire scores are recognized, along with top overall score. These are printed at bold on the front of the score sheets for everyone to see in the league, pure bragging rights. Not only did I get my 280(in fact it was a 281!) I also saw my name at the top of the sheets, not once, but TWICE!

To accomplish this I shot 8200 rounds of practice ammo. That doesnt count other calibers or guns, thats out of just my bullseye gun, and just one single load. 8200 rounds. Over 9k if you count what I shot total in competition too. Way more if you count what I shot in my other guns too.

Now that its over I look forward to going out and just shooting for fun. Its been two years since I took a few guns out and just shot for the heck of it. Not for league practice, not for slow fire, not for small groups, just for fun. I cant wait!

Yup, it is hard work. Its paying off though, isn't it?

As hard as your schedule is, highpower rifle season is a real grinder. Very long days. I'm getting up at 3am tomorrow to drive 3 hours to a match that'll probably be done around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

My hats off to you guys! I know a few guys out my way that do that, and its a real tough one. Seems matches are really spread out, not uncommon to have to spend a night on the road. Its worth it in the end too I am sure though, otherwise we wouldnt do it, would we?

No, they sure dont. Our team came in second this year, but not for lack of trying. We know what to do to fix that next year and we are ready to make a hard run at it next year.
