Wow, a popular question. Unless you plan on shooting Service Rifle competition in Highpower, get the flattop version. Its just much more user-friendly for optics.

Would definitely agree with Steve. The flatop is just that much more versatile.

I have one with carry handle and now wish I had the flat top. More versatility.

These days flatops seem to be the best choice. Plus you can mount the newer generation of handguards such as the RIS and RASII on a flatop, a non option on a carry handle version.

You can also get the removable carry handle. The only difference is the sight only goes to 6/3 instead of 8/3 on a standard carry handle upper and that some carry handle based scope mounts cannot be mounted on a A3 removable carry handle.

I shoot the old carry handle style. Due to the straight line design of the stock, if you get a flat top you need to get extra high rings to bring the optic up to your eye level. It's really not a scope friendly package, imho. The carry handle quick mount 3 or 4X scopes work pretty well and are repeatable in my experience.
