They sometimes wank extra velocity out of chosen loads and frequently shoot like they have training wheels-the sort of thing that is welcome when you get out into the hunting fields.

I just have never really been able to get into the long-barreled revolvers.
6" is pushing it for me...

"have you ever actually tried one?"
You're joking, right?
My personal dislike of the long-barreled handguns (ANY long-barreled hand gun) comes from both handling and appearance.

mec,
I saw your pic of the two Rugers on another forum and it just wouldn't open right. Now that I can see them I think you have a great set.
Kind of like my 7.5" OM BH, and my 6.6" SS Six. I wish the .22 was a 7.5" too.
As for the knife, ahhh that's just a short sword!!:D

I have to admit to having one although I will be the first to say they are not very packable. I prefer the 4 3/4" to 6" range for about 95% of my shooting.
FA .454 10" Ported (Needs a trailer to carry around)

The little FA .475 Linebaugh with 4 3/4" barrel is much more packable and has enough power to kill anything that walks, crawls or swims:neener:

My eyes prefer a longer sight radius; my wrist, however, prefers less weight.

I tried my first long barreled revo this past weekend,i noticed i was a little mone accurate but did not notice any difference in recoil compared to a friends 4",both were M-28's.I think i prefer 4" and shorter barrels cause they're more handy and seem to balance better,if i hunted with a hand gun the longer barrel would work for me.

Only revolver I've shot much that has a barrel longer than 6" was a Freedom Arms 454 that had a 7.5". Not sure how much that long barrel helps with recoil, but I think if I were to buy one, it wouldn't have much shorter than a 7.5" barrel. ;) Granted, I don't live in bear country and any bear I'm likely to come across in Indiana would probably be stopped by the 357 I carry in woodsy areas.
