Georgia ... How Good a Gun State?

We'll see, but there is a chance I may once again relocate, and this time possibly to Georgia.
Been reviewing Packing.Org (http://www.packing.org), and it looks as though GA is a pretty good state for firearms ... but I would like an opinion from those who have lived / live there. Atlanta area is most likely.
Thanks.

CCW is shall-issue, no training requirement. A bit slow from application to issue in some counties from what I've heard (2-3mos), but only 1 mo. where I live outside Atl. Pretty good CCW reciprocity, thanks in no small part to a largely RKBA-friendly Democratic Atty Gen. Restrictions on CCW to public gatherings and establishments where alcohol is served, but effort is being made to fix some of that. Very few restrictions on car carry, w/ or w/out CCW.
A Class III friendly state.
Generally pro-gun population.
LEOs generally not freaked by armed, CCW-toting citizens.
Lots of gun stores and places to shoot, both indoors and outdoors, in Atl area.
Bill Roger's shooting school is in Jasper and "name" trainers frequent the S. River Gun Club in Conyers just w/of Atl.
Lots of area gun shows, very often w/more guns than jerky.
Oh yeah, the traffic sucks.

I have been pulled over by a Georgia State Trooper while I had a pile of loaded handguns sitting on the passenger seat next to me. He wrote me my ticket (90 in a 65 :uhoh: ), politely asked me to slow down, and never said word one about the handguns. Gotta love rural GA. :)
(A loaded handgun in plain view in your car is perfectly legal with or without a CCW permit in GA.)

As are those in a glovebox or console.

Traffic is bad. Really bad, but housing is dirt cheap compared to a lot of places.
Only been pulled over once since I've had my CCW but I wasn't carrying at the time. No hassel from the officer at all. Very nice guy. Not sure if the CCW is linked to the drivers license or not.
When I got my first permit at 21, it took about 3 months for processing. There is no renewal if you move from within the state either. Kinda strange. Got the first permit in one county and had to go through the entire process again when was in a different county after the permit expired. It lasts 5 years. Getting it the second time only tool about 2 weeks for it to show up in the mail. Guess they saw that I was on file and had no outstanding stuff.
Generally gun friendly. There are pockets of nuttiness in the city but for the most part the burbs and country are very gun friendly. I have been here 14 years so far and I still like it.
Nice shops in and around the city. My favorite being Hotshots range/shop in Smyrna which is right down the road from my other favorite Adventure Outdoors. I have bought 4 of my last 5 at these two and have not been disappointed.
I like to shoot outside and have found a nice public range about 55 miles north of Atlanta off 75. Let me know if you want directions as it can be kinda tricky to find the first time.
Good hunting on both private and public land. Nice hiking upstate in the mountains.
What area are you looking in?

Georgia is a great state for gun owners. Heck, most of the liberals go about armed here!

It has been almost a year since I moved myself and family from Southern California to Georgia. Talk about a major cultural shock!
Georgia is a great Gun lover state where you can find every type of firearm available.... Class III, black rifles, Supressors.... you name it and it's here.
Make the move and you will not be disappointed.

From some of the stories I read about the Yankee states I can hardly believe they are part of the same country. :uhoh: Armed in GA.

Re renewals, I renewed in Barrow after moving from Gwinnett and it took 10 mins and $5 for me to walk out with my new, still-warm-from-the-laminating, license.

I lived in GA for a while. Gun friendly, no doubt.

Yes, it's gun friendly, but they do have a pending AW ban. (the chances of it passing are very slim, but still.)

Excellent news on all counts ... thank you. No specific plans right now ... need to see how things develop. So, I have no idea of the exact location ... but Atlanta is most likely.
Based upon an interview today, TN is another possibility. We shall see.
Appreciate the help.
