I'm sure it was just a simple mistake with the decimal point. It was supposed to be $199.50 for 50 rounds.

Good grief. Local Gunshops are selling 550 round bricks for $20-$25.

I bet some doofus will pay that price though.

They probably limit you to one box so everyone can take advantage of the offer.

wgaynor, my LGS's haven't had bricks in a LONG time.

I have two in this area that gets them in about every 4 days. They usually take 2 days to sell out, but it's for a good price.

Probably will take a few more months to show up elsewhere, but it's making a comeback.

Must be working for early retirement. I'll wait for $20 per brick.

A LGS in Huntsville is selling .22lr 50rd boxes for $9.95 limit one per person. When I first saw the price I asssumed it was for 100, upset when I saw the 50.

Its hit or miss on prices around here.

Actually Larrys had the 22lr, but your right about the one on Jordan lane, everything is double or triple price there.

I stumbled on that website earlier tonight as a matter of fact. I remember paying $8-$9 a brick for the same stuff at K mart many moons ago. I could drive to their business but it would cost me an additional 1/2 tank of gas.

Yesterday at Bass Pro Shops in Grapevine TX they had over 20 525 round boxes of Remington Golden bullet for $23.49. I was there at lunch and the guy at the door told me they had been sitting out all day. They also had boxes of 50 subsonic for $3.49.

Got an email last night from Mark's in Birmingham offering bricks or Aguila for the low price of $69.99 while supplies last. I bet I spent $5k a year at Mark's before he died. Now I spend maybe $500.

I still have a brick of that exact .22 ammo that I bought in the late 60's-early 70's for around $8.00. Maybe now would be the time to sell it, no I wouldn't feel right doing that. I'll let my grandson shoot it when he is old enough.

Last .22 lr. I bought (a week ago) was Federal .22s for $2.49 a box of 50.

That is still $24.90 for 500 but good enough.

With all this .22lr shortage price gouging crap thats going on. I really don't feel bad when I ordered some Federal Automatch online. I meant to only order 6 boxes at $11.95 each I actually ordered 12 boxes. Now I don't feel bad at all and the only 325rd brick of Automatch I've found in stores was $24.95

Just get an old mosin. I picked one up for 160 and bought a crate of surplus ammo for it. Much more fun than a .22 and it seems to be cheaper to do these days.

$23.00 for a 500 round brick of Remington thunderbolt. yes, its the cheap ammo, but its is the only "cheap" ammo ive found lately.

Jeeze, seems like when I was a kid that Winchester Super-X 50rd. boxes were 79 cents or so. Can't remember for sure, but they were cheap. Fished a lot of soda bottles out of ditches for .22's back in those days. Better times I've never had.

The Mosins are too punishing for a day of shooting. Lately I have rediscovered the joys of pellet gun shooting. My two newest (one in .22 and one in .177) are as expensive as a good .22 rifle, just as accurate, and the ammo is cheap and highly available. It'll keep me shooting til the .22LR ammo comes back at less than usurious prices.
I did recently manage to get 500 rounds of .22LR Minimag and 500 rounds of .22WMR Maximag from Midway - the 'notify' process works. Took too long to access by way of my home PC - it was gone by the time I got home from work. But my new Smartphone allows me to order as soon as the notify comes in! Worked for me!

Hey Rondog, I fondly remember going into the Western Auto store at age 9 back in 1961 and paying $0.29 for a box of 22 shorts. We plinked and hunted squirrels with them. Funny they never asked me why a 9 year old needed ammo. I can assure you guys, life was indeed much better back then. I would go back in a heartbeat, but this time I will find the money to buy Garands for $79.95 and new M1-carbines for $59.95.

ridiculous prices on all their 22. the 22mag was all $30-$40 for a 50rd box?!
that is as bad as cheaper than dirt .com.
375rd box of CCI 22LR for almost $100?!?

Haven't seen Federal "Lightning" 22 ammo in many, many years (like 20 or so). Maybe they are trying for some collectible value on a few boxes?

wgaynor - those are nice prices considering. Up here in Illinois near St. Louis, a regional discournt store called Rural King is selling Winchester 555 bulk for $53/box! :what::cuss:
Two Walmarts in this area never have any that I've seen in 11 months.

wgaynor

That's why I rarely by ammo at Rural King. Since this mess started, they've been very high on prices. Only thing I've bought there recently was buckshot.

The .22lr ammo that is available here is usually advertised on Fridays andgone by mid day Monday. Still not bad for those that don't have time to camp out in front of Walmart every morning.

Just who in the supply chain is ripping us off? Has the raw material that these .22RF are made of gone up in cost that much? Is this just a reaction to the anti-gun rhetoric of Obama and the media. Someone or group is making a real killing and I hope they choke on it before this is over.

October 15, 2013, 10:35 AM
Just like popcorn at the movie theatre or beer at the major league stadiums....as long as fools are willing to pay, the price will stay inflated. The problem is in the supply chain alright; it is the consumer at the end of the chain.

I'll start buying .22LR again when I don't have to be notified of its stock status by flash web announcement. That may mean I end up never getting .22 again due to the 'new normal', but so be it. I'm not paying $0.20/round for it in today's environment. I've been priced out of the market.

Why pay .20/rd. for .22LR when you can buy 7.62x54R for the same price, provided that .22LR is not your only type of gun?

One can always go find a decent MN 91/30 for approx. $200 or less.

I got an email from some online company that they had some .22lr ammo for $29.99 for a 325 count box. I'm not going to pay that but I went to the website just to check it out and they had a limit of 2 boxes and shipping was about $13 for my area so I could get 650 rounds for $73 or so. That comes to over $.11 per round.
The really funny thing to me was that they had it listed on sale with a "regular price" of $49.99!!! I understand that regular can be whatever they say it is, their house their rules, and I exercised my right to not buy the stuff, my money my choice.

They will probably be sold out within an hour.

Today I bought a 1,000 round black box of Winchester for $49. Big R in Warsaw, IN. They had about 20 boxes, though four sold just while I was there.

Keep checking. It's starting to get a lot better. This is the third place I've seen .22's in the past week or so, but this was by far the best price

anyone, with 1/2 of a brain, would let the "cheap" plinking ammo sit and rot. and pay the high dollar for competition target ammo. I mean if you HAVE to pay the long dollar to shoot, you might as well shoot the good stuff!

Jeez, it's been so long since I've even seen a box of Mini-Mags I was tempted for a moment.... But just for a moment.

Like I've posted before, I have a Sig Mosquito that runs perfectly on Mini-Mags but not so well on other stuff, so yes it was tempting.
